-

‘An Evening of Scrumptious Jaffna Food and Music’, organized by the Past Pupils Association of Chundikuli College-Jaffna, was held at the front yard of the Cathedral of Christ the Living SaviourBauddhaloka Mawatha on Saturday, the 27th May 2017.

On that bright, clear skied evening, at the beautifully decorated venue, a total of about 400 guests gathered - old girls, friends and well wishers. The main attraction was the authentic Jaffna food, sweets and of course the music. It was a joyful union of all communities in Sri Lanka.

It was not only the food and frolic that attracted those guests, but also their genuine generosity of supporting the worthy cause for which, the Past Pupils Association of Chundikuli College-Jaffna had organized this fund raising event.

CHUNDIKULI GIRLS’ COLLEGE is a well renowned school in Jaffna established in 1896 founded by the Missionaries of Church Missionary Society of London. The school is now governed by the Governing Body for the Educational Institutions founded by the C.M.S.in Ceylon. The College has marched forward victoriously through the difficult civil war period. Earlier in the sixties when the schools were taken over by the Government CGC opted to be private and now it remains an assisted school. After the cessation of the civil war in Sri Lanka the displaced families and many more have flocked to Jaffna. As a result the stu- dent population has risen. Furthermore the introduction of English medium and preschool resulted in the necessity to construct a new building ‘ CHELLIAH MEMORIAL BLOCK’ - named in memory of the past principal who could be called the ARCHITECT OF MODERN CGC’ .

The school depends on old girls and well wishers for infrastructure development. This time the need is to complete the ‘CHELLIAH BLOCK’. It is this need that instigated The Past Pupils’ Association ‘ Colombo branch to organize the fun filled food event and they successfully accomplished it to the satisfaction of all those supporters who were present that evening. It was a smartly organized well appreciated event !!
