ANC celebrates 15 years of excellence

-

As ANC Education steps into its 15th year, plans are under way for a year-long celebration to mark ANC’s remarkable journey towards success. Serving over 6,000 students at present, ANC has provided students of all ages a learning pathway as they progress in their education toward graduation and beyond. Anniversary celebrations commenced on 6th June with religious observances to invoke blessings, and the Marketing team, HR Department, faculty, and the members of student clubs and societies are still busy creating events, projects, and activities that will highlight ANC’s unparalleled impact on the field of international education and society at large.

Since its inception in 2002, ANC has built up an enviable reputation as the only local institution to expose Sri Lankan students to a world class education in collaboration with a number of renowned universities in the world. There are several education providers operating under ANC Education: Modern Montessori International (MMI), Wycherly International School, Regent International school, NetAssist International, PATHE Study Medicine and Eurosia. They offer a full spectrum of education programs from preschool, high school, foundation, diploma, undergraduate, and post graduate courses.

As DrJagathAlwis, the chairman of ANC Education, reiterates, ANC will continue to ensure that students’ investment in knowledge pays the best interest: “ANC has shown dedication and commitment to give local and regional access to quality international education – and I believe that ANC will continue to succeed and scale new heights while setting new benchmarks in the education industry.”

DrPunarjeewaKarunanayake, the CEO/ Executive Director of ANC Education, sees 15th anniversary celebration as an opportunity to reflect on ANC’s past and future: “… to remind ourselves to look back in time to ANC’s humble beginning, its vision, and mission as well as its achievements over the years so that we can improve on that to set ourselves new goals and take a leap forward to give our students a better learning experience… I pledge to use this milestone as a launch pad for even greater achievements in the coming years…”

According to Mr P. Saravanan, Director/ CFO of ANC, they are “committed to perpetuate ANC’s proud academic tradition and valuable partnerships with world class universities, which will help ANC stand the test of time as we enter the next stage of development… Our year-long activities will also give us the opportunity to share, in gratitude, our achievements with the community at large… and to bring to the notice of the community how ANC revolutionize education to give the best chance for students to succeed.”

Ms Aruni Mahipala, Director/ COO of ANC, contends that ANC has lived up to its motto “to produce competent graduates who are lured into multinational companies and world class grad schools within less than three months of graduation… Our transfer programs have enabled thousands of students to continue their education in top notch universities whereas the US Degree Completion Programs have helped students gain access to the same standard of education as practiced in the USA/ the UK at an affordable price. ANC was also the first local institution to attract both foreign expertise and a number of international students to Sri Lanka. More emphasis is placed on academics, yet various student activities inspire and guide students on more important things in life- integrity, self-confidence, tolerance, etc.

All the Heads of Academics consider it an honor to have contributed to a successful journey as ANC continues to champion academic excellence. They confirm that they have taken every step to ensure that rewarding career opportunities await ANC students upon graduation or they are accepted by a world class university if they wish to continue their higher studies elsewhere. According to MrchathuraLiyanage, Head of Academics of US Degree Programs, “in addition to well qualified fulltime faculty, industry experts are drawn in to share their experience to keep students abreast of current trends and advancements in the corporate sector; besides, Student Internship programs ensure that our students gain hands-on experience, develop skills, strengthen their resumes, and make connections that would come in handy in future. Our industry-focused curriculums are always validated by our partner universities.” Dr Mojgan Shadbash, Academic Head of Psychology degree programs, is happy to have helped hundreds of ANC students embark on a noble career as special educators, counselors, etc. She also said that ANC has gone one step further by introducing Master’s in Psychology awarded by UWL. “The very fact that a number of ANC graduates have opted to complete their Master’s also at ANC could be traced to the high standards we have maintained in our degree programs.” MrNaufaloon Mohammed, Head of Australian Foundation Programs at ANC, mentioned that his faculty helps students gain knowledge and skills rather than mindlessly drifting from one task to another; they are well equipped with everything it takes to compete with their Aussie counterparts in future.”

Marcelline Alexander, Academic Head of Postgraduate Business Programs, considers 15th year anniversary an important milestone and a sign of maturity and quality: “…Postgraduate Business School, in collaboration with University of West London (UWL),commenced delivering postgraduate Business programs with 36 students and today we have more than 650students in our programs..We have produced some best research dissertations and our students have obtained distinction passes although their assignments and examination markings go through stringent external marking processes according to the UK higher education standard.”Dr Asoka Silva, senior academic adviser ( legal) at ANC, mentioned that the LLM Pre Master’s in Law Programme has created a pathway for hundreds of graduates to enter postgraduate legal studies in the field of Business and Commercial Law and other related areas. He is very contented as LLM programs offered by UWL at ANC are designed in such a way that students consider their qualifications “not only a step in the right direction but also a leap towards their career goals”.

ANC management attributes their success to the hard work, dedication, and ability of their staff and students. They are grateful to all the staff, students, alumni, and their parents who placed their hopes for the future of their children at ANC. Their gratitude also goes to ANC’s partner universities and all the stake holders including foreign delegates and high school principals who had been there throughout.

According to several ANC staff, an important reason for ANC’s outstanding achievements could be traced to the leadership qualities of ANC’s true leaders. ANC has a strong institutional culture: people see themselves as members of ANC rather than just one department and they are encouraged to view the workplace as a chance to be personally fulfilled-a great workplace for all, it leads them to provide an unforgettable college experience for students.

Nilushika Perera, an ANC alumna preparing to pursue her research studies in Behavioral Health, has a lot of nice things to say about her experience at ANC: “My stay at ANC was the best four years of my life… ANC’s faculty encouraged us to challenge existing concepts critically. We could apply all these international concepts to Sri Lanka and learn where the strengths and limitations were in fostering change. It was invaluable… ANC allowed us to launch our initiatives and take it forward to the best of our ability…”Nilushikagraduated summa cum laude from Missouri University of Science and Technology (MST) with a BSc in Psychology and took home the High Achiever Award in 2014 and 2015.

Currently, there are 5 academic university and higher education partners delivering programs in Sri Lanka (Northwood University, University of West London, SUNY Empire State, Pattern University, and SQA) in addition to over 200 transfer and university representation agreements.A range of American university degree programs in areas of Business are offered at ANC: Marketing, Management, International Business, Finance and Entrepreneurship, Management Information Systems (MIS), and Hospitality and Tourism. They are internal degree programs directly awarded by Northwood University, the USA. SUNY Empire State and Pattern University offer US qualifications in Psychology. Students have access to online libraries and they are encouraged to be constantly in touch with US professors besides a number of lectures and workshops, conducted at ANC. ANC School of Postgraduate Education, in collaboration with University of West London commenced its operations 5 years ago, and currently offering 5 Master’s Programs: MBA, MBA with Hospitality Management, MSc International Business Management, LLM International Business and Commercial Law, and LLM International Studies in Intellectual Property Law. Msc in psychology program commences this September.

In sum, outstanding resources available for education, partnerships with world class universities, academic standards on a par with those of partner universities, and strong student services have led ANC to become the first choice for international education in Sri Lanka, and ANC will continue to strive for excellence!
