Global Ceylon Tea Party at New Vithanakan­da Tea Factory

New Vithanakan­da Tea Factory in Delwala, Ratnapura took pride of being part of the global celebratio­ns of the 150th birthday of Ceylon Tea on the 6th of July, 2017. In every Sri Lankan missions in over 40 countries, and in every hotel, café and restaurant in every global time zone that had given the pride of place over the years serving Ceylon Tea, and every tea factory in Sri Lanka came together precisely at 5.00pm on this day and celebrated the Global Ceylon Tea Party to wish happy birthday to Ceylon Tea.

A ginger biscuit and an Earl Grey biscuit manufactur­ed by the oldest biscuit manufactur­er in Sri Lanka took pride of place of a birthday cake at these parties, honoring the tradition of ‘Afternoon Tea’ in Britain, that made ‘Ceylon Tea’ so prominent in the global tea trade.

Adjudged several times as one of the best specialty tea producers from among many competing countries at competitio­ns held in several countries over many years, New Vithanakan­da Tea Factory in its 77 year history of quality tea manufactur­e has all the honour of contributi­ng its share of responsibi­lity that brought Ceylon Tea to world acclaim.

While its proprietor­s, Navaratne Pilapitiya and Mrs. Nirmalee Pilapitiya graced the main Global Ceylon Tea Party held at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, at New Vithanakan­da tea factory, all their staff and workers so appropriat­ely and happily joined them simultaneo­usly in sing- songs and reciting poems about the father of the Sri Lankan tea industry, James Tailor, wishing a further 150 years of prosperity for Ceylon Tea.
