Visakha Vidyalaya – Colombo

27th Susan George Pulimood Memorial Oration will be held on July 23 at 5.15pm at the Jeramias Dias Hall.

The St. Mary’s Sinhala Mixed School on R. A. de Mel Mawatha, Colombo 04, was founded on the 01st of January 1928. In the present-day there are about 105 students and 16 teachers.

As one of the school’s greatest achievements, girl guiding was started there with the help of seven girl guides of ‘11th Colombo’ atVisakhaVidyalaya, Bambalapitiya, Colombo 04. Nileesha Jayaweera, Lithmi Gamage, Praveeni Perera, Dedunu Sandali, Thewni Nivinya Akmeemana, Nipunika Nagahawatta and Bhanushi Perera are the seven girl guides who helped in the initiation of girl guiding at the St. Mary’s Sinhala Mixed School. Earlier, the first set of little friends were enrolled after registering the School for little friends.

These girl guides also proceeded to a fruitful beginning by registering the School as the ‘90th Colombo’ in the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association on the 05th of June 2017.

On the 09th of June 2017, they were able to enroll the first set of girl guides at this school under the guidance of the Division Commissioner, Ms. Vathsala Karunanayake.

This very first enrollment of girl guides, has managed to turn one of the golden pages of the history of St. Mary’s Sinhala Mixed School and of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association (SLGGA).
