Exams Dept deploys 2,000 teams to supervise GCE AL

-

The Dept of Exams ( DoE) has deployed 2,000 teams to supervise and monitor the GCE Advanced Level Exams at Zonal levels in each Province as well as the DoE.

Commissioner General of Exams, W. M. N. J. Pushpakumara told the Sunday Times that, although these teams existed in the past, their presence has not been felt. Consequently, they have strengthened all regulations and a well established body has been mobilised.

“When complaints are received by the DoE from places outside Colombo, we inform the related Zonal team to institute necessary action against the miscreant,” he said.

Mr Pushpakumara said they used the media as a platform to inform students about exam procedures, and advised them of the "Dos" and "Don’ts".

"As a result of which," he stated, "there have not been any complaints of students arriving late for the exam, nor has any electronic devices been confiscated."

“We have instructed every Exam Centre to announce the rules every day and, in case a student is caught with an electronic device, then the student will be barred from public exams for 5 years, including this one,” he stressed.

Mr Pushpakumara said there is a 24-hour hotline for any illegal act or unfairness faced during the exam, and the Police have been directed to look into issues pertaining to interruptions caused against conducting exams peacefully.

President Maithripala Sirisena was the Chief Guest at a 60th anniversary event to mark the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Sri Lanka.
