The Appointment of new student council at NCHS 2017/2018
What makes programmes at the Nawaloka College of Higher Studies (NCHS) unique is the relevance of the learning to the practical aspect of the subject. Swinburne has gained a reputation of being an ‘ Industry-engaged, industry-informed’ university. The curriculum and teaching methodology has been designed to be relevant to the needs of the industry. Through the carefully designed curriculum, the graduates who are produced are highly employable as they have the skill sets that are required for the world of work.
Activities and extra curricular activities are incorporated to the student life, giving the student the opportunity to prove themselves in a holistic educational experience. One of these activities is the Student Council.
Student Council 2017/ 2018
The NCHS Student council plays a large and significant role in the college as students are empowered to initiate and organize event that will enhance their university life. Through this experience, they are encouraged to maximize on their role as youth leaders and decision makers, while being mentored by the academic and administrative staff of NCHS.
The student council 2017/ 2018 was recently appointed and a new batch of outstanding students took over the helm of student life at the college.
The board consists of Anthony Dabare - President, Ramachandran Dhiloghe Ashwin -vice president, Shane John - Secretary , Gajini Hulangamuwa - Assistant secretary, Dinuki Gunathilake - Treasurer , Fahad Faiz - Assistant treasurer , Malith Perera - Event co-ordinator , Navindu Dakshitha -Assistant event co-ordinator, Chanuka Panagoda -Editor, Sashith Wijetunga - Editor and Gishan Pathirana as the Batch coordinator.
The role of sports coordinators are taken by Ronald Leon, Manul Rajapaksha, Kavish Peris and Abishek Mohanathas.
An Exciting Time Ahead
“At first I was extremely excited to be appointed as president as it wasn’t something that I had expected. It’s a huge responsibility, but I am thrilled to be the president of the NCHS student council” newly appointed president, Anthony Dabare said.
“The year was inaugurated with a pool competition” he said. The event was a great success and attracted a large number of students. The winning teams were awarded with cash prizes.
Anthony said that many more exciting events have been lined up too. These include the upcoming Fresher’s Night, a Cricket Carnival, Treasure Hunt and also the Graduation Ball.
“I hope that I will be one of the friendliest, most approachable and helpful presidents!” Anthony said. “Hardworking too!” he was quick to add with a smile.
Anthony explained that being the president of the NCHS student council will give him the opportunity to learn and develop his personality. “This will give me the exposure and insight to leadership skills that I will need in the real world. It will definitely be a good experience and will improve my skills in team work” he said in conclusion.
