Facebook Samaritans build security fence for rural school

A group of volunteers formed via FaceBook (FB), have initiated a project to build a 595- ft- long fence round KedaNekutana school in Kahatagasdigiliya, Anuradhapura, for the safety of its students.

The school, located 50 km away from Anuradhapura town, presently, does not have any protection around its premises, seriously affecting student activities, as stray cattle and dogs wander around the school grounds, and even come into the classrooms.

Currently, 101 students attend the school, with more than 17 newcomers awaiting admission next year.

Project Coordinator Subha Wickramasinghe said only Rs 95,000 of the estimated Project cost of Rs 150,000 has been collected from donations, with which they commenced construction.

Ms Wickramasinghe who has engaged in simi- lar projects helping schoolchildren in rural areas and those affected by flood, said they had donated stationery worth more than Rs 300,000 to the same school recently.

She said all bills and bank slips were also shared through FB to ensure transparency in all related transactions.
