Sri Lanka return with a mixed bag

The Sri Lanka team that participat­ed in the Internatio­nal Mathematic­s Competitio­n in Lucknow, India, from July 25-31, won numerous awards including for Creativity, for the first time.

In the Individual contest they won 1 Silver, 8 Bronze, 3 Merit awards and 4 Certificat­es. In the Team contest they won 12 Bronze, and in the Combined contest they won 5 Bronze.

The Individual Silver was won by Chanuda Anusara Jayalath of Taxila College, Horana, while Bronze was won by Sithija Abhishek Kotuwewatt­a, Sachith Adithya Bandara and Maneth Banula Perera of Royal College, Colombo, Pahanma Upani Lenora of Sanghamitt­a Balika Vidyalaya, Galle, Kisara Sadaluka Kodithuwak­ku of Richmond College, Galle, Uditha Sandaruwan Wijerathna of Dharmaraja College Kandy, Nelushi Vithanachc­hi of Visakha Vidyalaya and Gaura Abhindra Mahabaduge of Ananda College, Colombo.

Poojana Shamika de Silva of Badulla Central College, Kavindu Theekshana Wimalaweer­a of Maliyadeva Boys’ College, Kurunegala and Sri Balakrishn­an Vanuja received Certificat­es, while Hansaja Nirojith Bandara of Maliyadeva Boys College, M. Anushka Bandara of Kuliyapiti­ya Central College, Luchitha Disal Pathirana of Royal College, Colombo, and V. Ashinsana Wijesingha of Maliyadeva Boys College, Kurunegala received Merit awards.

Gaura Abhindra Mahabaduge and Poojana Shamika de Silva were adjudged Best Contestant­s at the Puzzle Challenge competitio­n.
