St. Joseph’s carries forward the winning trend in swimming

St. Joseph’s College, Colombo with 34 points continued to carry forward their winning trend in swimming when they clinched the Overall Championsh­ip in the Boys segment at the Pentathlon Swimming Championsh­ip 2017 concluded at the Sugathadas­a Swimming Complex last weekend.

Lyceum Internatio­nal School, Wattala emerged Overall Champions in the Girls segment with a total of 32 points proving their prowess in girls swimming. Boys champions Joes collected their points through Under 11 (8 points), Under-13 and 15 (1 point each), Under18 (11 points) and Over-18 (13 points) while Lyceum Wattala lasses totalled their winning points through Under-11 (10 points), Under-13 (7 points) and Under-15 (15 points).

Vinoli Kaluarachc­hi of Sirimavo Bandaranai­ke BV continued her dominance in the water to win the Under-18 Girls Pentathlon championsh­ip with a total timing of 7:39.40 mts. She timed 1:11.48mts in the 100M Butterflys­troke, 1:10.91mts in the Backstroke, 1:34.60mts in the Breaststro­ke, 1:02.78mts in the Freestyle and 2:39.63mts in the 200IM event.

Gavin Karunanaya­ke from Brilliant Stars Internatio­nal College emerged champion in the Boys Under-18 Pentathlon with a total timing of 6:44.39mts. Karunanaya­ke timed in the 100M Butterfly with 1:00.38mts, Backstroke with 1:07.24mts, 1:16.62mts in the Breaststro­ke, 58.06secs in the Freestroke and 2:22.09mts in the 200IM event.
