A university that truly delivers what they promise

-

Flinders University, an Australian university that is enriched with academics and is nestled between the bustling city of Adelaide on one side and the rippling waves of the ocean on the other. Flinders University is a university that truly lives by its promises. In this rapidly moving world of the 21st century the conventional classroom method is no longer the most appropriate methodology of teaching the young minds of tomorrow. Flinders University strives to produce graduates blossoming with practical knowledge and soft skills alongside their academics to suit the requirements of the entrepreneurs of today.

In a day and age where universities are established at the blink of an eye it has become a mind boggling venture to seek a university that truly abides by the promises it makes. Flinders University stands true to its words as they are unique in the methods they follow; moulding whole rounded students who are armed with work experience on their graduation day.

The sophisticated Flinders Business

This comprehensive university offers degrees in a range of fields spanning across nursing, medicine, engineering, information technology, law, business and much more. The highly sophisticated Flinders Business, for both undergraduate and postgraduate, was launched last week in Sri Lanka. Flinders Business strikes a fine balance between academics and the practical aspect of the industry. It has been formulated in such a manner to give the students a multitude of skills. Flinders Business has been tailored bearing the requirements of the industries of tomorrow.

While Flinders Business offers the traditional Bachelor of Business or Commerce, they have incorporated soft skills in to their degree programmes where students can major in Advanced Leadership, Innovation and Enterprise and much more which makes Flinders graduates stand out among the ordinary. While the others are still embracing the technology of tomorrow, Flinders University is already living it.

Flinders University has recognized the needs and wants of both the students and the employees. A student can opt to do a degree specializing in one particular area where their degree will be accredited by the respective chartered institutions or they can do double majors or combined degrees.. The combined degrees will allow flexibility to the students to combine degrees from different sectors in order to make themselves more competent in their chosen industries. “Masters in Accounting and Finance is one such instance where the basic ingredient of Accounting is combined with the glamorous world of Finance placing a practical emphasis” Professor Phyllis added in. Students have the option of enrolling for a diploma programme which can be followed up with the degree. Flinders International Study Centre offers a unique Pre Masers programme to prepare those who have completed a qualification in the Diploma level but aren’t quite ready to pursue a Masters programme. A student pursuing studies in Sri Lanka too can transfer mid way of their programme to the University.

Career ready, future focused student life

The programmes that Flinders Business offer are highly unique. “We produce students who are career ready as they have already gained work experience working on live projects. By incorporating modern topics in our syllabuses we have become future focused. We also teach our students to be their own boss through a terrific concept called ‘Venture Dorm’ where our students are taught how to turn a mere idea into a business. Through this concept we have started 184 startup companies since 2014,” Professor Phyllis Tharenou, Vice President and Executive Dean, College of Business, Government and Law stated proudly.

The University has introduced new specializations such as Advanced Leadership, Innovation and Enterprise as a means of teaching the much desired soft skills, such as negotiating and public speaking, that professional bodies seek in employees. These programmes are structured to the very last detail in order to provide the students with a high quality learning experience.

“The mandatory industry placement gave me an opportunity to work with a multi million dollar solar company which gave me an immense experience. The University also supports you by appointing a peer mentor from day one and then an industry mentor who is in the same industry as one chooses,” Zak Robson a student in the Undergraduate Bachelor of Commerce (Advanced Leadership) and Accountants’ Daily Australian Accounting

Student of the Year for 2016, spoke of his experiences at the University. Flinders University places a paramount of importance on the placements and internships that their students become involved with. The University matches each and every student with employers after a carefully analyzed thorough process and provide them with a training prior to the internship. “From the data we have gathered in the past 6 months to one year we have learnt that the host organizations have hired 30% of our students as employees upon graduation which alone speak of our success” stated Professor Phyllis.

The University is constituent of many social clubs and extra- curricular activities and is home to a diverse student communi- ty. Flinders University offers 15% scholarship to postgraduate Business students for the entire duration of their course at Flinders University. They are also hoping to have other scholarship opportunities available in the future, including undergraduate.. Students are also given a 50% discount on public transport and many other concessions and discounts once they are equipped with the student card issued by the University.

This prestigious University is situated in a capital city, Adelaide, which is ranked first as most affordable capital city of Australia and 5th most livable city in the world.
