Economics Scholarships for Sri Lankan students to attend the University of Queensland
Now is the time to apply to study economics at The University of Queensland (UQ), one of the world’s top 50 universities*, and a founding member of the prestigious Group of Eight (Go8) universities, withnew scholarships available for high achieving Sri Lankan students.
The scholarship will cover up to 50 per cent tuition fees for up to three students to study either an undergraduate Bachelor of Economics program, or one of UQ’s coursework masters programs within the School of Economics.
UQ has established a strong connection with Sri Lanka, providing scholarships to three Sri Lankan students in the past five years.
RansimalaWeerasooriya from Musaeus College in Colombo received a UQ scholarship in 2015.
Ransi said that her scholarship allowed her to focus on her studies and complete research projects.
“I have had the opportunity to work as a Research Assistant at the UQ School of Economics. I assist in a wide range of projects, ranging from poverty to tourism,” Ransi said.
UQ understands that academic interests are as diverse as the 51,000 students who attend the university (including over 13,300 international students from 141 countries), and offers exceptional program choices across a wide range of study areas.
Ransi said that she has met students from a range of academic and cultural backgrounds.
“At UQ I have had the opportunity to make friends with international students as well as local students from all around Queensland,” Ransi said.
“Now, I am one of the 100+ friendly call crew members of UQ’s Student Relations Network. I call current and future students to offer peer-to-peer advice and suggest campus and social events that students may want to take part in.”
Ransi plans to stay at UQ for a one-year honours program after graduating.
