-

Spectrum Institute of Science &Technology (SIST) is the oldest institute established in Sri Lanka that is completely dedicated to life science education. SIST is built on a strong foundation of educational experience and has shown strong commitment to quality and excellence in education for almost two decades.

Spectrum Institute of Science & Technology was incorporated under the laws of BOI in 2001 with the main aim of providing cutting edge science and technology education in Sri Lanka. Since its inception, SIST has dedicated its efforts towards enhancing human capital and fulfilling the aspirations of its students, who are eager to pursue a career in life and molecular sciences.

This institute takes pride in opening the doors for Sri Lankan students to begin their career in the field of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences. SIST has offered degree programs and professional training courses for more than 25 batch of students. Hundreds of past students are employed in high profile sectors includi n g Fo r t u n e 500 c o m p a n i e s, academia( public and private institutes) and research institutes specially in the field of food technology, pharmaceuticals and health care.SIST was also instrumental in creating the first generation of bio- tech start- up companies in Sri Lanka through cohesive education. SIST has many evident success stories of the students who participated in international conferences and summits, developed leadership skills through Rotaract, British Council youth empowerment projects, and community service, and those who have won prestigious scholarships for their Masters and PhDs in countries such as Australia, Canada, UK and USA. SIST believes in producing graduates who make meaningful contributions to their communities and professions. Among our well-rounded graduate alumni are lecturers, research scientists, consultants and entrepreneurs.

SIST has been a proud symbol of Sri Lanka in the international arenaof life science education. SIST has worked tirelessly to ensure that Sri Lankan students can learn and earn prestigious, internationally recognized Life-Science degrees from the comfort of their homeland at only a fraction of the international cost. It is important to note that this comprehensive, four year, low cost Hons degree from Edinburgh Napier University is a negotiation based on the economics of the country and NOT a negotiation based on partial partnership or compromised quality. This makes the students of Sri Lanka to study the exact same degree just the way they could study in UK.

SIST has collaborations with many recognized research institutes and universities worldwidepaving way to realize itsvision of upgrading life science education in Sri Lanka. The collaborations include many of the world’s reputed universities such University of Mysore- India, Edinburgh Napier University- UK, Deakin Unive r s i t y - Au s t r a l i a , Wageningen University-Netherlands, and research institutes like Royal Tropical Institute- Netherlands, Northwick Park Institute for Medical Research- UK, Accelerated Development Karolinska Institute- Sweden, BiozoneResearch Te chn o l o g i e s - I n d i a , T re c S t e p Technologies-India and many more. SIST has s everal Memorandum of Understanding with institutes overseas to exchange education and training for the students. SIST has worked with United Nations, British Council and many prestigious organizations through their community service and environmental service projects.

SIST is keen in sowing the seeds of social responsibility in its students. SIST never failed to have a strong influence and lasting impact on the young minds who have big dreams of their own.SIST attracts the largest share of private higher education students in Sri Lanka in the field of Biotechnology and Biomedical sciences. The courses are designed to equip graduates to succeed in contemporary workplaces with their exposure to practical ( lab, internship etc.) as well as the classroom environment.

SIST’s campus is currently located in a 10,000 square foot facility in Colombo- 04 and has the added advantage of four large, completely equipped laboratories that encourage students to explore and experiment in the fields of Molecular biology, Tissue c u l t u re, Bioch e m i s t r y, Microbiology and Medical Biotechnology. SIST continues to progress and expand in every possible way to meet the growing demands of this ever-competitive scientific field and looks forward to nurturing the young minds of Sri Lanka that are passionate about life science.
