UK cardiologists to perform free surgeries in Galle

-

A team of cardiologists from the Carolina Children's Hospital in the United Kingdom are performing heart surgeries at the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle.

The team of doctors headed by Specialist Consultants Dr. John M. Simson and Dr. Monalist will perform heart surgeries freeof- charge on children with serious heart problems.

The team arrived in Sri Lanka on 15 September and will perform surgeries on children with serious heart ailments.

The doctors said their priority would be children coming from low income families who could not afford the high prices charged by private hospitals.

The team plans to perform around 30 surgeries during their ten-day stay.

This is the 12th time a team from the Carolina Children’s Hospital has visited the Karapitiya hospital. A team from the Carolina first visited the Karapitiya hospital in 2006.

Dr. Namal Gamage of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital has requested low income families who have children with serious heart ailments to visit the hospital and make use of the opportunity.
