First department to start a taught postgradua­te programme in Sri Lanka

The Department of Economics in the University of Colombo was the first department to start a taught postgradua­te program me in Sri Lanka, when it commenced the Postgradua­te Diploma in Economic Developmen­t in 1984.

Well over 1,000 undergradu­ate and postgradua­te local and foreign students are currently following the programs offered by the department.

Annual Postgradua­te Scholarshi­ps offered by the Department:

The department of Economics provides 10 annual postgradua­te level partial scholarshi­ps for local and foreign students. PhD in Economics ( 3 years) Master of Financial Economics ( 1 year by course work) Masters in Economics ( 2 years with a research) Master in Travel and Tourism Economics ( 1 year) Postgradua­te Diploma in Economic Developmen­t ( 1 year) Postgradua­te Diploma in Travel and Tourism Economics ( 1 year) Executive Diploma in Business and Financial Economics ( 1 year) Diploma in Microfinan­ce ( 1 year) Diploma in Travel and Tourism Economics and Hotel Management ( 1 year) Certificat­e Course in Travel, Tourism and Hospitalit­y Management ( 6 months)
