First department to start a taught postgraduate programme in Sri Lanka
Department of Economics-University of Colombo Centre of Excellence in Economics in Sri Lanka
The Department of Economics in the University of Colombo was the first department to start a taught postgraduate program me in Sri Lanka, when it commenced the Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Development in 1984.
Well over 1,000 undergraduate and postgraduate local and foreign students are currently following the programs offered by the department.
Annual Postgraduate Scholarships offered by the Department:
The department of Economics provides 10 annual postgraduate level partial scholarships for local and foreign students. PhD in Economics ( 3 years) Master of Financial Economics ( 1 year by course work) Masters in Economics ( 2 years with a research) Master in Travel and Tourism Economics ( 1 year) Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Development ( 1 year) Postgraduate Diploma in Travel and Tourism Economics ( 1 year) Executive Diploma in Business and Financial Economics ( 1 year) Diploma in Microfinance ( 1 year) Diploma in Travel and Tourism Economics and Hotel Management ( 1 year) Certificate Course in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management ( 6 months)
