Mahogany Masterpieces; the journey continues

-

Each one of us knows of an inspiring woman, be it a mother, sister, boss, friend or mentor. One who dares to persevere against the challenges thrown at them, whose strength awes us. It was this strength and inspiration that Amanté used as their muse for their 2017 Autumn/ Winter Collection. Amante the premium lingerie brand, unveiled their ‘Muse’ Collection at an event held at the ARQ Style House in Colombo on September 21. The new collection included under-wired and non wired lingerie sets, one piece and two piece swimsuits as well as beach cover-ups. The collection featured embossed mono-coloured floral prints, marbled prints, and delicate lace. The colours featured seemed subdued yet rich, giving the collection a look of stylish elegance. Speaking at the event, General Manager of Amanté Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Sasanka Bandara described the collection as one which draws inspiration from young women and juxtaposes that strength with femininity. Thespian and animal rights activist Shanuki De Alwis also spoke at the event, chosen by the brand as an example of the inspiring woman this collection celebrates. Addressing those gathered Shanuki stated that she believed that it isn’t the loudest or boldest that inspire, but rather those who chose to be resilient and empower others, though they may do so silently. Amanté, a subsidiary of MAS Holdings, has for the past few years established itself as a popular premier lingerie brand in the island. Their newest collection will be available at leading retail outlets islandwide and at their flagship stores at the Racecourse Promenade, Colombo 7 and the Kandy City Centre. The collection is also available online at global.amantelingerie. com

Pakistani jewellery designer Amber Sami recently visited Sri Lanka for a private jewellery show. Her work is Kundan jewellery from the Bahawalpur region in Pakistan which she designs in her own unique style. “It’s not precious metal or semi precious metal or anything which can be labelled. My work tells a story and I use what is best for me to convey that story,” she explained. Captured here is some of her work.

Mahogany Masterpieces opened their third store last month, at No. 87, Dickmans Road, Colombo 5, adding to their expansive furniture collection from the avant garde to the traditional. The firm also launched Sri Lanka’s first mobile app with virtual reality features for interior design.

The story of Mahogany Masterpieces started with Sumith Goonerathne crafting a button for a local fashion chain. This led to the founding of Craft Supplies in 1974. Craft Supplies was incorporated as Mahogany Masterpieces in 2005. The firm has spread to Australia, Canada, Japan, USA, Europe, the Middle East, India and the Maldives.

Mahogany Masterpieces’ new range provides interior decor in homes, corporate offices, hotels and resorts. Occasional furniture, pantry units and accessories will be on display at the new venue.
