-

The Gateway Colleges, in their constant endeavours to create opportunities for the various skills and talents of their students to develop and blossom, organized the Gateway Colleges Choir Festival for the second year in succession on 14th September 2017.

The festival was hosted jointly by Gateway College Negombo and the University of Adelaide. It was an evening of mesmeric performances by the four Gateway Colleges – Colombo, Kandy, Negombo and Dehiwala - to a tightly packed audience in the Negombo auditorium. Chief among the high-profile guests who attended was Professor Mark Carrol, Associate Dean (International & Engagement), Faculty of Arts, University of Adelaide. Mark is a passionate music educator, a Professor of Music and the Director of the University’s Elder Conservatorium of Music. Mark also works closely with the Australian Ballet, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, State Opera of South Australia and the Adelaide Festival Centre.

Chairman of the Gateway Group Dr. Harsha Alles, Managing Director Ms. Rohini Alles, Directors of the Board, Principals and Deputy Principals of the schools were among the appreciative and proud attendees comprising parents, teachers and other students.

Each school performed two songs in the first session followed by either a duet or a trio in the second session, which demonstrated the high quality of singing and excellent direction.

The festival was followed by a workshop for the choristers and trainers of all four Gateway Colleges, conducted by Professor Carroll the next morning, at the Dehiwala auditorium. He also gave the students valuable feedback on their performances of the previous evening.

The programme and sessions were of immense benefit to the choristers and marks a big stride towards their future development.
