Gypsies' Sunil says RTI jingle will promote democracy

-

As part of events connected with International Right to Know Day which fell on September 28, the Sri Lanka Press Institute ( SLPI) has launched the Right to Information ( RTI) promotional jingle ‘ Eyi’ which was composed by veteran singer Sunil Perera, of Gypsies fame.

The purpose of dedicating such a day is to make citizens aware their constitutional right to access information from public authorities.

"I am so pleased to do this jingle free of charge for the cause we were fighting for a long time. We, as tax payers, have all the right to question the authorities on various issues. I strongly believe, they are compelled or duty bound to answer people’s questions. I know it is still not happening properly, but at least the base is set to begin the true face of democracy. I believe Yahapalanaya will deliver the promised future for all Sri Lankans’ Mr. Perera said.

The SLPI has posted Sunil's jingle on its RTI Sri Lanka Facebook page as part of its continued efforts to promote the RTI concept and create awareness among the public of their rights under the RTI Act, which was an outcome of efforts in Sri Lanka in a 1998 Colombo conference.
