Olé! Melania Trump sports a flamenco -style skirt and figure-hugging white top

Melania Trump put on a very festive display as she supported her husband at a Hispanic Heritage Month event on Friday, adding a bit of fun to the occasion with a bright and bold outfit.

The bottom half of the 47-yearold's ensemble seemed inspired by Latin culture in her choice of ensemble, picking a bright red skirt with a ruffled mermaid hem that was reminiscent of traditional flamenco-style skirts.

Meanwhile, her figure-hugging off-white sweater was not dissimilar to the styles worn by 'sweater girls' like Jayne Mansfield, Marilyn Monroe, and Jane Russell, who sparked a trend in the 40s and 50s of wearing round-neck, skin-tight knits in order to emphasize their chests. At the time, the screen sirens wore their sweaters over conical or bullet- shaped bras in order to truly emphasize their bustline as much as possible - a style choice that Melania opted not to copy.

Instead the First Lady added her own form of flair with a bright bold pair of shoes, pairing the scarlet skirt, which featured fun floral embellishments around the hem, and white top with a pair of red heels.

The bright pop of colour ensured she stood out from the crowd as she joined her husband onstage, alongside several other attendees who were all clad in dark suits.

Melania's outfit certainly seemed to prove more popular than the ensemble she wore this week when she joined her husband on his trip to Las Vegas to visit victims of the shooting.

Upon the couple's late return from Nevada, Melania was see sporting large sunglasses, a fashion choice which prompted a fair amount of mockery from people online who questioned why the accessory was needed at nighttime.

' I wonder if Melania Trump wears big sunglasses in public so no one can see her rolling her eyes at the BS her hubby says,' one Twitter user wrote.

Thankfully, Melania's latest fashion-forward ensemble was much more of a hit, and she appeared comfortable and confident as she was welcomed onto the stage by her husband, who invited her to join him behind the podium about one minute after he began addressing the crowds.

Trump delivered a short speech in which he discussed the contributions of the Hispanic community in the US, doling out praise but also slipping in some words of criticism regarding what he perceives as the 'tough' culture.

The president did not make any mention of his proposed border wall with Mexico, however, keeping quiet about the hot- button topic, just days after it was revealed that prototypes for the construction had been erected along San Diego's frontier with the country.

Customs and Border Protection tweeted a number of photographs on Tuesday which show 30- foothigh pieces of concrete being lifted by large cranes along the border that separates San Diego and Tijuana.

The federal government said last week that contractors began building eight prototypes of Trump's proposed border wall with Mexico, hitting a milestone toward a key campaign pledge.

But while President Trump failed to bring up the controversial border, he did discuss the situation in Puerto Rico, pronouncing the territory's name in an exaggerated accent that earned a few laughs from the crowd - and garnered some criticism on social media.

He pronounced it 'Pueeerto Reeco.' ' We love Pueeerto Reeco!' Trump said again, to good-natured laughter inside the East Room.

Trump's speech came just hours after it was revealed that he is rolling back free contraception for women that was permitted under previous Obamacare rules, by allowing more employers to opt out of providing no-cost birth control by claiming religious or moral objections.
