NKAR tuk tuk campaign

-

NAKR sponsored awareness campaign with three wheel drivers was held in Colombo recently. The awareness campaign with three wheel drivers was focused in order to celebrate the World Tourism day and safety rides.

The campaign was focused on educating the 3-wheel owners / drivers to reap long term benefits from Tourists, rather than looking at immediate short term gains. The owners/ drivers were briefed, motivated and guided to focus on the following :- Avoid reckless driving, never to over- charge a passenger(tourist), to avoid sexual harassment and its repercussions, never to use drugs, nor consume liquor whilst driving and never ever to promote drugs to the passengers and finally to be decent and polite to the passengers.

It has been a well thought of campaign, or one might consider it to be a social responsible project to support them, the Industry and the Nation.

People on the street were amazed the way in which it has been organised – so cheerfully, friendly and with much revelry.

It was certainly a pleasant sight to see the 3-wheel drivers showing immense interest and enthusiasm when the staff of NKAR were stopping them for a short briefing and issuing handouts in all three languages that can even be displayed in their vehicles to multiply the message.

Towards mid- day it was a long traffic line of 3-wheelers down Green Path, and as the word went by more and more were keen to support the campaign, and the following was huge. As a good will gesture NKAR Travels and Tours (Pvt) Limited took the pleasure of sponsoring 4000 litres of petrol to the participants.

When these ‘Tuk Tuk’ drivers realized that the campaign was totally for their benefit, although it was spear-headed by a private tour operating company, they gave their full support with excellent cooperation and conduct. Some of them were even heard commenting ‘this is the kind of support and guidance that we look for from responsible industry partners.’

The campaign which was the brain- child of Nilmin Nanayakkara, Managing Director of NKARTravels and Tours received the full support and endorsement of Sri Lanka Tourism, The Tourist Police and Media.

It looked a bit funny, happy and crazy at one point of time as there was a huge traffic of ‘ TukTuks’ in front of the NKAR Office in Green Path, as the people on the street were curious to know what exactly was happening.
