Higher Education Forum: “Higher education in the era of global change”
In an era where the world is moving fast, higher education is perceived to be an agent of economic and technological innovations as well as a door that opens up a magnitude of opportunities around the world. Pearson the world’s leading education company understands how important it is to keep up with the top trends in education today and constantly embrace, test and innovate new technologies that adapt to the ever-changing lifestyles. Pearson supports learners who aspire to change the way we do things through education and real life learning. With this objective in mind, Pearson organized an evening for the Heads of Pearson BTEC Higher Education Centres themed “Higher Education in the Era of Global Change” at the Golden Pond, Taj Samudra Hotel.
Jane Baker, Director of Higher Education Qualifications – Pearson addressing the gathering expounded how Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) are developed to meet the challenges of higher education in the era of global change. She highlighted the global challenges faced by universities and employers with the oversupply of people with low-level skills and shortage of people with advanced high-level skills which greatly impacts the rise of youth unemployment. Jane, further mentioned that this disparity is created due to the vast gap between the academic education and the skills required for more competitive jobs in a 21st century world. “In order to bridge this gap higher education must provide skills and behavioursthat support graduates entering a rapidly changing world”said Jane.
More employers and professional bodies are now on the lookout for 21st century learners who are defined as an engaged thinker, ethi- cal citizen with entrepreneurial spirit. This is why Pearson has developed its higher education qualifications in conjunction with professional bodies and employers and incorporated Pearson ‘World Class Qualifications’ principles; demanding, rigorous, inclusive and empowering. Mapped against the QAA Framework for Higher Education Qualifications and Subject Sector Benchmarks. Pearson BTEC HNs are accredited to the OFQUAL (The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
