Tourism in Kalpitiya initiated with patriotism for Dolphins and Whales. The adventure lovers travel with fishermen’s crafts to fulfill their desire to see a Dolphin and Whales. In such situations fishermen use to give their house to tourists for accommodation and slept outside. Current tourism in Kalpitiya is an evolvement of such Tradition.

The largest coral reef (307 square km) in Sri Lanka, which can be reached by an hour’s boat trip from Kalpitiya, serves as the ideal sea for keen scuba divers and snorkelers and this too would be promoted.

‘In addition tours to fishing villages, night fishing, Wilpattu National Park tours and other excursions too would be promoted’ he added.
