Tourism in Kalpitiya initiated with patriotism for Dolphins and Whales. The adventure lovers travel with fishermen’s crafts to fulfill their desire to see a Dolphin and Whales. But most of the times they were disappointed and made them stay in Kalpitiya for more than one day. In such situations fishermen use to give their house to tourists for accommodation and slept outside. Current tourism in Kalpitiya is an evolvement of such Tradition.

Apart from a few decent places in the Peninsula, Kalpitiya is lacking a star class accommodation to attract the high endof the market.

Blue Whale Boutique Resort Kalpitiya would be opened next November adding the much needed four star luxuries to the area. The hotel also plans to be the largest hotel in the area.

‘Ithaly Lanka Imports and Exports Pvt Ltd’ has given Blue Whale Boutique Beach resort with a sense of Luxury and given emphasis on honouring the above trend.

‘We believe Kalpitiya has much more to offer for high and middle range tourism; where currently is not evident. Fulfilling the necessity with Bridging the gap; and revolutionary Blue Whale Boutique Resort be the first luxury bou- high end cliental to our hotel’ said the veteran hotelier Rizmy Hassan, the consultant to the Project.

The largest coral reef (307 square km) in Sri Lanka, which can be reached by an hour’s boat trip from Kalpitiya, serves as the ideal sea for keen scuba divers and snorkelers and this too would be promoted.

‘In addition tours to fishing villages, night fishing, Wilpattu National Park tours and other excursions too would be promoted’ he added.
