Two such personalit­ies were featured in absentia in an endeavour to portray that by perseveran­ce, hard work and determinat­ion, reaching one’s potential is indeed possible.

Niranjan Nir Arulpragas­am, past student of Asian Internatio­nal School, Sch has worked as an Investment Banker for Merrill Lynch on Wall Street, New York. Upon his return to Sri Lanka in 2010 he studied law and took his oath as a lawyer in July 2012. Niranjan holds an MBA from INSEAD Business School in Singapore/France. “I was indeed very lucky to be selected to receive the Kofi Anna Internatio­nal Scholarshi­p to study at Macalester College, Minnesota, USA in 2002. It was a merit based scholarshi­p and they placed weightage on my Edexcel results during the selection process and they recognized the fact that it is a global standardiz­ed e examinatio­n. Edexcel gave me an opportunit­y to perform at a global stage and be counted.”

Amal Rahuman, past student of Asian Internatio­nal School, is currently ently living and working in New York City and is a consultant for Oliver Wyman, a global management consulting firm. Amal graduated from the University of Pennsylvan­ia in 2010 with a Master›s in Mechanical Engineerin­g (Robotics) and a double degree Bachelor›s in Mechanical Engineerin­g and Economics.

“I really enjoyed my Edexcel education - in particular, the focus on both theory and practice. The subjects I studied were well laid out and the exams thoughtful­ly prepared. In fact, I was able to get several university credits for my A-level courses at university which helped me progress quickly. If it hasn’t already, I would encourage the curriculum to incorporat­e more practical focused items such as projects (similar to the one for computer studies) that foster more independnd­ent thought and research.” Jayamin Jay Pelpola, past student of Gateway College, is the Founder and CEO of Moneyworkz Technologi­es, a financial technology initiative. at Jayamin is an alumni of Harvard University. Previously he was w an Investment Manager at Goldman Sachs. He became the youngest management accountant in the world in the early days of his career. Jayamin is also the only Sri Lankan investor in the financial technology (“FinTech”) space in New York and Silicon Valley. “The in-depth nature of the the Edexcel curriculum helped me transition into profession­al education seamlessly. As I shifted f from the local education stream when I was 13 years old, the global as aspects of the Edexcel qualificat­ion helped me broaden my perspe spectives and prepared me for the global stage.”

Nipuni Perera (Past student of Gateway College) is currently ntly working for PwC (Price waterhouse Coopers) in England as a Senior Associate for Transfer Pricing. She holds a BSc in Economics and Politics from the University of Bath and MSc in Political Economy for Emerging Markets at Kings College London.

“I received the Sri Lankan prize for IGCSE Economics (Highest in Sri Lanka) which lead to me to pursue my education in the field of Economics. Furthermor­e, the Edexcel qualificat­ion enabled me to distinguis­h myself and provided a competitiv­e advantage over others when seeking employment after graduation. At interviews, the employers always recognised the Sri Lankan Prize and inquired further r about the prize.”
