Seminar on Frontiers in Agrochemicals

-

A Seminar on Frontiers in Agrochemicals will be conducted by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon at its headquarters in Rajagiriya on 29th November.

Agrochemicals are chemical products such as fertilizers, pesticides and soil conditioners used in agriculture. They were introduced aiming at enhancing crop yields and at protecting crops from pests and weeds. Due to adaptation and resistance developed by pests to chemicals, every year higher amounts and new chemical compounds are used to protect crops, causing undesired side effects and raising the costs of food production. The use of agrochemicals, is a common practice in Sri Lanka and is a topic widely discussed at present, ‘

After the welcome address delivered by Dr. Positha Premaratne, the President of Institute of Chemistry, presentations will be made by expert resource persons on Agrochemicals in 21st Century, Glyphosate herbicide. Fertilisers: Use and their Impacts on the Environment, Impact of Agrochemicals on Human Health and Remedial Measures, Pesticide Management in the Country, Organic Fertilizers,
