MAF conducts trailblazer project for Sri Pada College
A segment of musicians and artistes of the Moratuwa Arts Forum (MAF) took time off from their normal schedule of activities to carry out a worthy social responsibility project - a Leadership workshop in the cooler climes of Hatton, for the benefit of nearly 200 senior students in the area . It was held at Sri Pada College on 12th October as a leadership development and personal growth program also promoting and emphasizing the need for coexistence among Sinhala , Tamil and Muslim communities , beginning at grassroot levels from younger days .
The Moratuwa Arts Forum should be commended for identifying priority needs of the country's youth and planning this trailblazer project outside their hometown of Moratuwa for the first time in its entire history , to help uplift the hidden skills of school children and further build new friendships with people from other communities .
The workshop lectures were based on career guidance , job opportunities , effective communications , improving leadership skills , teamwork etc. Former bassist cum singer Brian Coorey , drummer and vocalist Hiran Fernando and guitarist Hemaka Fernando were the main lecturers at this workshop . Many inspirational video clips on reaching out for excellence were also viewed by the participants .
This new thinking was the brainchild of veteran La Bambas musician Priya Peiris, who chaired the project .
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event , the principal of Sri Pada College, Wasantha Kaviraja praised the MAF artistes for realizing the value of social responsibility educational programs and proposed to work together with the Forum for future educational and musical endeavors as well . President of MAF , Erinton Perera , Sri Pada College OBA treasurer Chandana Jayaweera and Sama Cooray of the Moratuwa Divisional Secretariat , cultural section also spoke .
