Ox­ford to spon­sor Hameed Al-Hus­seinie Pres­i­dent's Cup Foot­ball Tour­na­ment

The Ox­ford Group has come aboard as the main spon­sor of the Pres­i­dent’s Cup 2018, an In­ter- School Foot­ball tour­na­ment or­gan­ised by the Group of 80’s of Hameed Al- Hus­seinie Col­lege. The 11th edi­tion of the In­terS­chools In­vi­ta­tion Foot­ball Tour­na­ment will be held at the Colombo Race­course ground in Colombo, with dates yet to be con­firmed by the or­gan­is­ers.

The an­nual In­ter- Schools In­vi­ta­tion Foot­ball Tour­na­ment has been or­gan­ised by the Group of 80’s since 2008 and 20 lead­ing foot­ball play­ing schools fiercely par­tic­i­pate every year vy­ing for the main ti­tle. The hosts, Hameed Al- Hus­seinie Col­lege are the cur­rent ti­tle hold­ers of the Pres­i­dent’s Cup.

Ox­ford Group is one of the ma­jor im­porters and dis­trib­u­tors of leather prod­ucts in Sri Lanka. The of­fi­cial launch and the event of hand­ing over of the spon­sor­ship was held at the re­cently con­cluded Hamee­di­ans Fel­low­ship Din­ner or­gan­ised by the Old Boys’ As­so­ci­a­tion last Satur­day at Ho­tel Galadari, in Colombo.

Speak­ing after ex­chang­ing the spon­sor­ship deal at the oc­ca­sion, the Chair­man of Ox­ford Group, Imthiyas Fa­rook stated that it is im­por­tant to bring up sports­man­ship among young chil­dren dur­ing their school days. He also em­pha­sised that good lead­er­ship and ex­e­cu­tion skills can be de­vel­oped through a team sport such as foot­ball, in which they learn that cor­rect ex­e­cu­tion brings ul­ti­mate re­sults.

The Tour na­ment Or­gan­is­ing Com­mit­tee said that the fi­nal match will be played un­der flood lights and more than 5000 spec­ta­tors are ex­pected to wit­ness the fi­nal bat­tle for the Pres­i­dent’s Cup cham­pion ti­tle.
