A world-class Cambridge education prepares Sri Lankan students for life

-

At Cambridge Assessment International Education we prepare school students for life while helping them develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning. We are a part of Cambridge Assessment, a department of the University of Cambridge.

Over 10000 schools in over 160 countries around the world offer Cambridge qualifications and programmes. As a notfor-profit organisation, our resources are dedicated to delivering high-quality educational programmes that can unlock learners’ potential. Together with schools, we develop Cambridge learners who are confident, responsible, reflective, innovative and engaged – equipped for success in the modern world.

The Cambridge Pathway

Our Cambridge Pathway gives students a clear path for educational success from age 5 to 19. Its wide range of subjects and flexible ways to offer them gives schools the chance to shape the curriculum so that it is exciting and relevant to their students.

The Cambridge Pathway has four stages: Cambridge Primary, Cambridge Lower Secondary, Cambridge Upper Secondary and Cambridge Advanced. At each stage, students build on their previous learning. It’s a spiral approach that reinforces what students have learned, while at the same time taking them forward.

The Cambridge Pathway helps students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to achieve success at school, university and beyond. Cambridge Primary

Cambridge Primary is an established and successful international programme, typically for learners aged 5 to 11 years. It is taken in more than 110 countries worldwide, and taught in over 1300 schools. The programme combines a world-class curriculum with high-quality support for teachers and integrated assessment. It develops skills and understanding in English, Mathematics, Science, Cambridge Global Perspectives (a cross-curricular programme) and ICT Starters.

At the end of Cambridge Primary, learners can take Cambridge Primary Checkpoint tests. These tests are marked by Cambridge International and every learner receives a statement of achievement and diagnostic feedback report. They provide an international benchmark for learner performance.

Cambridge Lower Secondary

Cambridge Lower Secondary is typically for learners aged 11 to 14 years, developing skills and understanding in English as a first or second language, Mathematics, Science, Cambridge Global Perspectives and ICT Starters. It sets clear learning objectives for the first three years of secondary education.

Cambridge Lower Secondary provides excellent preparation for Cambridge Upper Secondary and other educational programmes. Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests can be used at the end of the programme to monitor learners’ readiness for the next stage of education and identify strengths and weaknesses

Cambridge IGCSE

Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international curriculum for 14 to 16 year olds. It was developed 30 years ago and develops skills in creative thinking, enquiry, problem solving. There are over 70 subjects available at Cambridge IGCSE, including 30 languages, and schools can offer them in any combination.

At the end of the course, students take Cambridge IGCSE qualifications which are recognised and valued by universities and employers worldwide. We offer a variety of assessment options, including written, oral, coursework and practical assessment.

Cambridge O Level

Cambridge International is the biggest provider of O/ Levels in the world. Cambridge O/ Level is taken in over 60 countries and recognised as a reliable record of attainment by universities and employers worldwide, equivalent to Cambridge IGCSE and the UK GCSE.

We have designed Cambridge O/ Levels especially for an international audience. They are sensitive to the needs of different countries and for learners whose first language may not be English.

Learners can choose from over 40 subjects at Cambridge O/Level, in any combination. Assessment takes place at the end of the course in the form of written, oral and practical assessment.

Cambridge International AS & A Levels

Typically for students aged 16 to 19 years who need advanced study to prepare for university, Cambridge International AS & A Levels help develop a deep understanding of subjects, as well as independent learning and constructive thinking skills. There are 55 subjects to choose from and schools can offer them in any combination. Cambridge International A level is typically a twoyear course, and Cambridge International AS Level is typically a oneyear course.

Learners can choose from a range of assessment options, including taking Cambridge International AS Level as a standalone qualification or as part of a progression to Cambridge International A/Level.

Cambridge International AS & A Level is taken by thousands of learners every year who gain places at leading universities worldwide, including the UK, US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. It is accepted by over 500 US universities (including all the Ivy League), and by all UK universities. In countries like the US and Canada, good grades in carefully chosen Cambridge International A/ Level subjects can result in up to one full year of university course credit.

We work closely with universities worldwide to make sure they understand Cambridge programmes and qualifications and reward Cambridge learners appropriately for their achievements. Our recognitions team works with key influencers, such as ministries of education and national bodies that regulate universities, to extend university recognition.

Cambridge Global Perspectives®

Cambridge Global Perspectives is a unique, transformational programme that helps students at every stage of school education develop outstanding transferable skills, including critical thinking, research and collaboration.

The programme taps into the way today’s students enjoy learning, including group work, seminars, projects and working with other students around the world. The emphasis is on developing stu- dents’ ability to think critically about a range of global issues where there is always more than one point of view.

We have recently extended the programme to Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Lower Secondary stages, and it will be available for teaching from June 2018. This new development means schools can now offer Cambridge Global Perspectives to students from age 5 to 19 years.

Cambridge Professional Development for teachers

Being part of the Cambridge community opens up a wide range of professional development opportunities for teachers.

Cambridge Professional Development Qualifications (PDQs) are an increasingly vital part of the professional learning experience of Cambridge teachers and education leaders. Many Cambridge schools run our qualifications in house to develop standards of teaching, motivate their staff and encourage new ideas.

Our suite of qualifications covers four themed areas: Teaching & Learning, Teaching Bilingual Learners, Teaching with Digital Technologies, and Educational Leadership.

Cambridge PDQs are accredited by UCL Institute of Education, ranked as the world’s top university for education in the 2015 and 2016 QS World University Rankings.
