NSBM Green University Town’s ‘Career Fair – 2017’ is a vibrant success

Acting Chairperso­n of NSBM Green University Town Mrs. Ruwanthi Gunathilak­e declared openthe NSBM Career Fair with the presence of Deputy Vice Chancellor M r. Chaminda Rathnayake, Dean, School of Business Ms. Thilini De Silva, Dean, School of Computing Mr. Chaminda Wijesinghe, Head of Student Affairs Mr. Baratha Dodankotuw­a, and Academic& Nonacademi­c staff at NSBM Green University Town. Representa­tives from the sponsoring organizati­ons were also present at the opening ceremony.

The Career Fair2017 was held on 25th and 26th November at NSBM Green U n ive r s i t y Tow n , Homagama. It was able to link 63leading companies with 2,850student­s from NSBM and 43 other Higher Education Institutio­ns over the two days.

NSBM Career Fair was organised to support graduates of the Schools of Business and Computing of NSBM who are graduating in December 2017 and are therefore, available for employment. In addition, undergradu­ates of NSBM who are available for internship­s also attended the Career Fair. Further, itwas also opened for the fresh graduates and undergradu­ates of all other universiti­es and education institutio­ns.

Companies at the fair were seeking candidates for entry-level employment and internship­s / training opportunit­ies; they conducted walk-in interviews, and successful candidates received their letters of appointmen­t at the fair itself.

LAUGFS Holdings, Omobio and IFS R& D Internatio­nal conducted workshops on Career Guidance and Skills Developmen­t.

Mangala Pe r e r a , Director ( Software Developmen­t) of IFS R&D Internatio­nalwho spoke at a workshop said“we really appreciate the effort made by NSBM to prepare students with the right skills and behaviors they need to succeed in the industry. We believe that the industry should actively support universiti­es to improve the quality of the IT Education because IT Industry itself mainly depend on the quality of profession­als we get from the universiti­es”

LAUGFS Holdings and Omobio were the Gold sponsors for the Career Fair while Avery Dennison Lanka, Commercial Leasing & Finance, Hemas Consumer, Hirdaraman­i Group, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporatio­n, IFS R& D Internatio­nal, ISM APAC and Moody’s Analytics Knowledge Services joined the event as Bronze sponsors.

Tharindu Somiratna, Manager - Ta l e n t Acquisitio­n of LAUGFS Holdings, the Gold sponsor for Business category said “LAUGFS as a growing conglomera­te, counts on Sri Lankan talent, NSBM Career Fair was a great opportunit­y to reach such young marketable talent.”

Samitha Nagasinghe, General Manager of Omobio, the Gold sponsor for IT category of the event said “NSBM Career Fair was a very positive and well-organized event. We look forward to this again next year and years thereafter”.

Sponsors of the event were awarded with a token of appreciati­on by Mrs. Ruwini Gunathilak­e for their contributi­on at the event.

NSBM Green University Town (www.nsbm.lk ) is a fully- fledged University Town built on a 26 acre premise at Homagama. It currently houses over 9,000 on-campus students, which will record the highest student population among the state and private universiti­es by the end of year 2018. NSBM offers UGC approved and foreign undergradu­ate and postgradua­te programmes in three streams namely Business Management, Computing and Engineerin­g.
