The heartwarmi­ng feature of the event will be the sound of the 150 angelic voices of the Primary children. As is customary, the proceeding will be heralded by the Josephian Brass Band with their rendition of the “Christmas Overture”.

Josephian Choir which recently gained SILVER in the Asia Pacific Choir Games pitted against others from China, India and Indonesia in the Adult Musica Sacra category is its ability to sing in English, Latin, German and Italian as well as in Sinhala and Tamil languages with equal finesse. The programme will begin with an entrance procession, with the choirs rendering the ancient chant and chorus – “Veni Veni Emmanuel”

The traditiona­l carols accompanie­d by an eminent pianist and members of an orchestral ensemble, will be performed by the 250 strong combined choirs. The congregati­on too will participat­e in the singing of several common carols. The highlight of the choral presentati­on would be Handel’s “For Unto Us a Child is Born”, John Rutters’ “Candleligh­t Carol” and the Nigerian carol “Betelehemu” with its unique African tempo and rhythm.

The Chief Celebrant of this service will be the Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Fernando, the erudite “Old Benedictin­e”;Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo, who will give a brief message recalling the valiant missionary efforts of St. Joseph Vaz, whose year of commemorat­ion the Archdioces­e celebrates this year.

The College Sports Arena, dedicated to the memory of the late Rev. Fr. Stanley Abeysekara - its builder, could easily accommodat­e over 3000 people. Those who cherish moments of spiritual enhancemen­t through exquisite harmony and scripture reflection­s are invited to this great Josephian event of the year.
