Seventy nine young Thomians honoured
Seventy nine young Thomians were honoured in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the field of sports during the year 2017 at the ' Colours Nite' of St. Thomas' college Matale held at the college auditorium.
A distinguished old boy of St. Thomas' Matale, Brigadier Chandana Wijayasundara RSP USP (SL Army) graced the occasion as the chief guest with another old Thomian Asanga Wijekoon senior area manager Singer SL Plc as the guest of honour.
' Rising sun' is the highest award and the four recipients for this prestigious accolade were T. C. S. Bandara, A. C. B. Pa r a h i t i yaw a , H . J. Hewawasam and M. A. T. B. Ranaweera who represented Sri Lanka in the fifth Asian schools hockey championship 2017.
Sgt. Weerasingha MGTP (cadetting), K.H.A.T.D. Peiris ( Rugby), T. B. Samarakoon (Athletics), M.L. Jayasundara ( C r i cket) and T. M . S . Kamaldeen (Hockey) were the five students who received best player awards for the year 2017.
Heshara Jagadaksha Hewawasam was crowned as the most outstanding sportsman of the year 2017 for his excellent performances in hockey.
