Message from the President – Sri Lanka Institute of Training and Development

Sri Lanka Institute of Training and Development ( SLITAD) was founded in 1998 by a group of HRD Professionals led by late Mr. Achilles Joseph, a former Deputy Inspector General of Police and Director Higher Training of Sri Lanka Police.

We at SLITAD represents HRD professionals with a passion to progress through shared wisdom. We believe in the value that learning, grooming, facilitating, developing and training adds value towards a progressive team. The needs for individuals to evolve in core competencies as well as advantageous skills-sets are more pronounced in today’s fast changing corporate landscape. Thus the development of an organisation’s human capital makes them better armed to take on challenges as individuals and therefore as an organised team.

SLITAD Launched People Development Award 2016/ 17 for the fourth successful year and seventeen organizations were awarded with Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze awards at the award ceremony.

We had the good fortune of Dr. Harsha De Silva the Deputy minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs and Prof. P.S.M. Gunaratne , Vice Chairman, University Grants Commission gracing the occasion as the chief guest and the guest of honour respectively.

The award focused on the organizations people development initiatives on holistic framework benchmarked with global and regional best practices, the framework having ten standards. The strategic clus- ter included Business Strategy, Learning and Development Strategy, People Management Strategy, Leadership and Management Strategy, Management effectiveness, Recognition and Reward , Involvement and Empowerment, Learning and Development, Performance and Measurement and Continuous Improvement as the standard focused area.

The selection process was completely independent and three teams of university lecturers who are not attached to any of the organizations applied for the rewards conducted the on-site audits and made the recommendations to the judging committee that was also independent.

I take this opportunity to congratulate all award winners at SLITAD People Development Awards 2016/17 held on the 13th of December and wish you an effective progressive year ahead. Chandra Fernando
