Sandali crowned the best sports woman

Sandali Kanishka Udagedara was crowned as the best sports woman of the year for her excellent performanc­es in the game of chess, at the 'Colours awards ceremony 2017' of Pushpadana girls school Kandy held at the school auditorium.

Sandali, is a brilliant chess player, who has represente­d the country at the Asian youth chess championsh­ip 2017 and Commonweal­th chess championsh­ip 2016. She was the champion at the special youth all island chess championsh­ip 2017 and also at the Sri Lanka schools super 30 all island chess championsh­ip held in 2017.

Over 300 Pushpadani­ans were awarded certificat­es of excellence, Pushpa Kekulu , Pushpa and Swarna Pushpa awards in recognitio­n of their achievemen­ts in the sports arena during the two years 2016 and 2017.

Ms. Sriyani Kulawansa, (silver medalist commonweal­th games 1998) assistant project officer athletics, ministry of education graced the occasion as the chief guest while the guest of honour was Dr. Lakkhi Devika Jayasooriy­a, eye surgical unit general hospital Kandy, who is a past pupil of Pushpadana Girls School.

Medavi Binaramali Bandara, who has showed much promise in karate by winning a first place in kata at shotokan karate do national karate championsh­ip 2016 and another first place in kumite at Japan karate do Nobukawa Ha Shito - Ryukai - 2016 internatio­nal karate do championsh­ip was presented with the award for the most promising sports star of the school.
