Pasindu, Avisha shine in Maris Stella’s big win

Pasindu Ushetti and Avisha Keshan shone for Maris Stella as the duo guided their side to record a massive innings and 149- run win over President’s College Kotte in the Under- 19 Inter- School Cricket encounter at Negombo yesterday.

Pasindu, who grabbed a match bag of nine wickets, impressed by capturing 6 for 34 in the second innings. Avishka bagged three scalps and the duo combined to skittle out President’s Kotte batting the second time. President’s, left with a daunting task of erasing a deficit of 219 runs to avoid an innings defeat, were bowled out for a paltry 70 runs.

Earlier in the day Maris Stella resumed from their overnight score of 276 for 5 and made a mammoth 413 with Lasith Croospulle top scoring, 104.

Sri Sumangala Panadura was home for lunch when they defeated St . John’s Jaffna by an innings and 30 runs at Jaffna.

The Sumangalia­ns in reply to the Johnians score of 96 made 204 – carrying on from their overnight score of 184 for 9. Johnians batting the second time with a deficit of 108 runs, put in another pathetic batting performanc­e and collapsed for 78.

Dharmapala Pannipitiy­a despite being bundled out for a meager 42 runs on Day One, was making steady progress after being set a massive target of 310 runs by Ananda at Ananda Mawatha.

Holy Cross Kalutara was on top against Revatha MMV Balapitiya and looked set to record an outright win before play stopped for lunch on the second day. Dharmaloka MV Kelaniya was in trouble against Piliyandal­a Central at Piliyandal­a.

At Thurstan ground, D. S. Senanayake were in deep trouble against Thurstan on the first day. They were badly placed on 90 for 7 during the second session.
