Gold studded night for Party Treats at Lanka Star & Asia Star Awards
Party Treats Lanka ( Pvt) Ltd. walked away with a Lanka Star Gold award and an Asia Star award for Excellence in Packaging at the Lanka Star and Asia Star Packaging Contests 2017 conducted by the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging and the Asian Packaging Federation respectively for the package “Party Treats 500g Love Cake Box”- a strategically designed pack for Love Cake for the local and export markets made up of E- flute corrugated laminated board with a simple but elegant design with soft colour surface printing. The cake is placed in a food grade HIPS tray kept inside a polypropylene pouch thus protecting the contents from damage in transit and also improving the shelf life of the product.
The joint Awards presentation was held on 13th December 2017 at Galadari Hotel, Colombo organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging with a gathering of around 260 participants from Sri Lanka and nine countries from Asia Pacific region.
“Party Treats” a company producing cakes has an illustrious history dating back to early 1980s pioneered by Sandhya Marambe wife of Gamini Marambe.
Sandhaya Marambe - an old girl o f Holy Family Conve n t , Bambalapitiya having followed cookery instruction courses under renowned Instructress Genevieve White and few others after her school career produced cakes initially domestically whilst caring for her two young daughters with her husband Gamini giving a helping hand.
Gamini Marambe, the man behind the scene is qualified Accountant having served as an Accountant and a General Manager in a leading Corrugated box Manufacturing company and later as General Manager of a Rigid Plastic packaging manufacturing company. He was also an active member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging and served the Institute as its Treasurer and later as its Senior Vice President. He has also served the Asian Packaging Federation as its Treasurer for 4 years from year 2000 onwards.
Gamini Marambe foresaw the prospects of “Party Treats” and completely severed his connections with the National and international packaging organizations as well as to his professional career to assist his wife in furtherance of the family business .
Three varieties of cakes namely Rich Cake, Love Cake and Wedding Cake are produced with the seasonal Christmas Cake ( a Rich Cake). These Cakes are for the Niche market on special orders and stringent attention is paid using high quality ingredients in the preparation of these Cakes and the hard work put in by the Managing partners — Sandhya and Gamini and their staff have brought gainful results receiving HACCP and Quality standards certification ISO 22000 for Food Safety Management.
The business which started on a domestic scale has now expanded to the international market . Due to the high quality and mouth savoury deliciousness of these products there is a heavy demand in the international market such as UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand , Middle East to name a few - especially amongst the Sri Lankan expatriates living in those countries where requests have been made to open up distributing agencies.
