Indian scholarshi­ps galore for 2018-19

The Indian High Commission in Colombo has announced a series of scholarshi­p on offer for the 2018 -2019 academic sessions: More than 175 scholarshi­ps are on offer.

Among them are the Nehru Memorial Scholarshi­p scheme where 100 scholarshi­ps are being offered for undergradu­ate courses excluding medicine. The scholarshi­ps cover a wide range of subjects including Engineerin­g, Science, Business, Economics, Commerc e, Humanities and Arts (including Classical Music, Classical Dance and Visual Arts).

The Maulana Azad Scholarshi­p Scheme which offers 50 scholarshi­ps for Masters Degree courses including Engineerin­g, Science, Economics, Commerc e, Humanities and Arts has also been announced.

However, preference would be given to the fields of Engineerin­g, Science and Agricultur­e.

Under the Rajiv Gandhi Scholarshi­p Scheme 25 slots are offered for undergradu­ate courses in the field of Informatio­n Technology, Bachelor of Engineerin­g and Bachelor or Technology.

The Indian High Commission said the Government of India selects the students on merit to aw a r d scholarshi­ps. Selection of candidates is done in consultati­on with the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways of Sri Lanka, to pursue undergradu­ate and postgradua­te degrees in some of the top most universiti­es and institutio­ns in India.

All scholarshi­ps cover full tuition fees for the entire duration of the course, monthly sustenance allowance, and annual grant for books and stationery.

The selected candidates would also be provided hostel facilities inside the campus. All scholars are provided full healthcare facilities, air fare to the nearest destinatio­n in India and an annual grant for educationa­l tours to various parts of the country, apart from several other auxiliary benefits.

The eligible candidates can download the applicatio­n forms from the website of the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways at www. mohe. gov. lk. The last date for submission of duly filled up applicatio­n forms for undergradu­ate and postgradua­te courses is January 15, 2018.

Prospectiv­e students are advised to approach the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways to learn more about the eligibilit­y criteria and selection procedure.
