AR, VR, MR and New Media Technologies integrated into AMDT’s Interactive Multimedia and 3D Animation Qualifications

-

Augmented reality (AR), Virtual reality (VR) and Mixed reality (MR) are technologies that are impacting a wide range of industries worldwide and will be a potential gamechanger for businesses in Sri Lanka. These technologies will not only magnify customer experience but create engagement within the businesses and explore Creativity.

By integrating augmented reality and virtual reality, several stages of product development can be boosted, simplified and supported. Prototyping will soon become completely in digital environments in 3D where prototypes get experienced digitally.

Recently both ‘Autodesk’ and ‘Microsoft Halo’ ventured into AR, VR & MR. While Microsoft tested MR headsets with its Flagship video game ‘Halo Recruit’ this past October, it’s only still the first step of many heading in this direction. A new platform for creation, AR, VR, and MR lets you think of unique ways to use a 3D spatial canvas. Trevor Jones – an artist who specializes in AR paintings says that Augmented reality has enabled artists to blur the lines of what a physical painting can do. It enables you as an artist to add creative stories or digital information about your work that changes the way people see your piece. For example, a static painting can become a living narrative, once scanned with a mobile device. What begins as a still image transforms into a video, animation or other digital content that can take the viewer into the mind of the artist; their inspiration, creative processes or to tell a story in a more visually engaging way. Due to the wide usage of devices like smartphones and iPads, artists using AR can reach an audience on a mass scale. Creatives shouldn’t be afraid of technology and instead, embrace it as a tool to distribute their work captivating a large audience.

AMDT’s Interactive Multimedia and 3D Animation & VFX Degree Level Qualifications are now integrated with these new technologies making AR, VR, and MR accessible to Sri Lanka’s young Creative generation.
