Logistic: One of the fastest growing professions in the world

-

The Logistic profession is now without a doubt one of the fastest growing professions in the world. With the demand for logisticians on the rise the value of the industry is increasing overnight, and the fact that only two universities in the country provides a 4 year undergraduate programme in Transportation and logistics management adds up to that value. With young minds with both theoretical and practical experience replacing the traditional workforce in the industry it has become far more efficient and challenging, challenging because the way people do things in the industry keeps on changing, adopting new technologies, new practices making the processes of carrying out a task far more efficient which motivates others to do better and come up with an even better set of practices.

Since childhood I always had this urge to seek the unknown and constantly face and overcome challenges, this lead me to choose the profession of a logistician, a decision I do not regret. That being said I myself did not know what exactly the term logistics meant exactly or what the job of a logistician would be until I started studying the subject. Out of 3 private institutes providing a degree in this field I was given the option of choosing the best, which I did by carefully going through the quality and standard of the education and also the reputation of the affiliated university, by the time I concluded my research it was clear that only the Colombo International Nautical and Engineering college or CINEC would be my ideal choice not only because it was the only private educational provider with a comprehensive 4 year learning programme on my field of interest but also because of the environment inside the campus and the enthusiasm of the lecturers and the faculty staff.

After joining CINEC I realized that the path I was on started to shift for the better, I was able to do better in my academics while engaging in extracurricular activities solely with the guidance and the dedication of the lecturers. Throughout the four years of being part of the student body the amount of opportunities that opened for me was way beyond my expectations. I had the opportunity to be engaged in a very divers set of activities from interuniversity sports competitions to corporate challenges to public speaking competitions. By being part of the Students association I was given the chance of working with fellow students from all other faculties and departments which not only improved my people’s skills but also widened my network.

I did not realize the value of the decision I made few years go until I stepped into the industry where I witnessed the faith and the respect, companies of all sorts had for graduates from CINEC, not only in the aspect of knowledge but also in discipline and personality.

And today while working in the management consulting division at KPMG Sri Lanka and being a co-founder of Hybriteq, one of the Sri Lanka’s first sports technological companies I am personally thrilled of the journey so far, and I without a shadow of doubt can say that CINEC played a major role in moulding me to the man I am today, giving a backing without which I couldn’t have come this far down the road.
