Inter-Club Division B Rugby Championsh­ip kicks off

The Inter-Club Division B Rugby Championsh­ip for the Rudra Rajasingha­m Trophy kicked off last week with 11 teams in the fray. The teams involved include four teams from Sri Lanka Army -- Colts, Keterians, Four Wings and Wagoners, while Sri Lanka Navy fields two teams -Dreadnough­ts and Sea Horse. Other teams are Air Force Chipmunks, Kurunegala RFC, Police Griffins, Havelock Bambaras and CH Kabaragoya­s.

In the opening week Navy Dreadnough­ts, Army Colts and Police Griffins recorded wins while Navy Sea Horse received a walkover from CH Kabaragoya­s. Navy Dreadnough­ts beat Air Force Chipmunks by 22 points to 18, while in a home and home affair Army Colts recorded a runaway victory against Army Keterians by 73 points to nil. Police Griffins overcame Army Wagoners by 41 points to 16.

The teams are divided into two groups, 'A' and 'B' where five and six sides each are in it. Army Colts, Navy Dreadnough­ts, Air Force Chipmunks, Army Keterians and Kurunegala RFC are in Group 'A' while the Group 'B' is made of Navy Sea Horse, Police Griffins, Army Four Wings, Havelock Bambaras, Army Wagoners and CH Kabaragoya­s.

Five games will go into decisions this week, starting off with the clash between Army Colts and Navy Dreadnough­ts at Diyagama on Tuesday. On Wednesday Kurunegala RFC will meet Air Force Chipmunks at Ratmalana, Navy Sea Horse will play host to Army Wagoners at Welisara and Police Griffins will take on Army Four Wings at Police Park. On Friday CH Kabaragoya­s will meet Havelock Bambaras at Havelock Park while Army Keterians take the week off.
