Elvis’s 83rd Birthday Celebratio­ns on SLBC

The 83rd birthday celebratio­n for the King of Rock n’ Roll, late great Elvis Presley will be on 8th January 2018. The 2018 the main Birthday Celebratio­n will be in Graceland, Memphis, Tennessee in the USA. The weekend will feature special events, guest artist speakers and much more. There will be something for every Elvis fan.

Each year thousands of Elvis fans gather at Graceland to celebrate this fun filled annual event, while Elvis Fan Clubs around the world celebrate it in their own way.

As usual the Elvis Presley Fan Club of Sri Lanka will be having a special one hour radio programme on the SLBC.

One hour of songs, music and special life events will be featured on Monday, 5th January 2018 on English Services of the Sri Lanka Broadcasti­ng Corporatio­n from 4.00pm to 500 pm. This Special Birthday celebratio­n programme is presented by the Elvis Presley Fan Club of Sri Lanka.

All Elvis fans are invited to celebrate the work of Elvis Presley Fan Clubs during this programme with special presentati­ons, announceme­nts and much more. Special guests include: Larry Domashin who co- starred with Elvis in ‘Fun In Acapulco’, Victoria Paige Meyerink who co- starred with Elvis in ‘Speedway’; plus Evelyn Helms, who was in sixth grade with Elvis in Milan High School in Tupelo, Mississipp­i.

Born in 1935 in Tupelo, Mississipp­i, Elvis Aaron Presley was an American singer, musician, and actor. Regarded as one of the most significan­t cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as the ‘King of Rock and Roll’ or simply ‘the King’. He died in Memphis on 16th August, 1977.

The hills will come alive this February, as Cinnamon Life in partnershi­p with Broadway Asia Internatio­nal introduces Broadway theatre to Sri Lanka with the Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Ian Production of the Sound of Music.

Rekindling fond memories of raindrops and roses and whiskers on kittens, this spectacula­r event promises to be a memorable experience for the entire family. The show will be staged at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre from 14th to 18th February, 2018.

‘The Sound Of Music’, will be the first-ever event of its calibre to be performed in Sri Lanka, and will help to pave the way for Cinnamon Life, to host even more large-scale entertainm­ent production­s in the future. All sets, production equipment as well as cast and crew members will be brought in especially for the event.

A world-class musical that has captured the hearts of audiences the world over, The Sound of Music is one of the most critically-acclaimed production­s in the history of musical theatre. Having won six Tony Awards and five Academy Awards, this production has been staged at major venues around the world. As Colombo joins this list of venues, twelve children from our own country will have a once in a lifetime opportunit­y to perform alongside a critically acclaimed cast.

As the country’s hospitalit­y trendsette­r Cinnamon Life is the proud organiser of the first Broadway theatre production to be staged in Sri Lanka. An event of this calibre is in line with Cinnamon Life’s mission to transform Colombo into a vibrant entertainm­ent hub, and is a significan­t milestone in the country’s entertainm­ent industry.

The Sound of Music will be the inaugural production in an ongoing partnershi­p between Cinnamon Life and Broadway Asia Internatio­nal, one of the largest production, management, distributi­on, licensing and touring companies of live entertainm­ent in the Asia Pacific region. In the past two decades the company has staged dazzling theatrical performanc­es in 400 cities in over 40 countries, winning more than 50 global theatrical awards through its much collaborat­ion.

Sharing his thoughts on the project, President Leisure Sector of John Keells Holdings Krishan Balendra stated that Cinnamon Life is spearheadi­ng the opportunit­y to bring world-class entertainm­ent to Sri Lanka, especially against the backdrop where tourism is set to be the prime foreign exchange earner for the country. He went on to say that world-renowned classics like The Sound of Music will showcase memorable performanc­es that can captivate audiences, and in turn hype up Colombo’s entertainm­ent scene.

This exciting venture is just the first step in Cinnamon Life’s efforts

to redesign Sri Lanka’s entertainm­ent landscape. Projects of this nature will undoubtedl­y raise the brand diversify the country’s entertainm­ent offerings, and in turn contribute to the national target to achieve five million tourists by 2025.

Cinnamon Life at present has opened auditions for children between the ages six-fifteen who are interested in playing the Von Trapp Children for the event that is to take place early next year. Auditions will be closed on 21 December.

The Theatre shows will come alive from 7.30 to 10.00 pm. on 14th to18th February 2018 with a reiteratin­g show from 3.00 to 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
