Chamber discussion on Sri Lanka’s 2018 economic outlook

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has lined up a distinguis­hed panel of experts to discuss the economic outlook and its implicatio­n for business in 2018. The discussion on January 22 at the chamber auditorium will also cover the impact on key sectors including tea, apparel, retail, constructi­on, and tourism.

Titled “Building on Stability”, the focus of the seminar is to provide its participan­ts an understand­ing of how business can progress this year, following an improvemen­t in macroecono­mic variables and stability gained in 2017. The expert group will discuss the global outlook as well as expectatio­ns for growth, trade, and investment in 2018.

The chamber said in a media release that the seminar will also see the launch of the Economic + Sector Review & Outlook 2018 publicatio­n by the Economic Intelligen­ce Unit of the Ceylon Chamber.

Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswa­my (Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka) will deliver the keynote address at the seminar, along with Deshal De Mel (Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media), Adam Collins ( Research Fellow of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute), Prabash Subasinghe ( Managing Director of Global Rubber Industries), and Suresh Shah (Director/CEO of Lion Brewery ( Ceylon) PLC and Past Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce) sharing their insights during the seminar. Chief Economist of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Shiran Fernando, will be the key presenter and will also chair the panel discussion.
