Saegis Campus offers HND in travel and tourism in collaborat­ion with the Scottish qualificat­ions authority

Tourism and hospitalit­y is a large and ever-expanding industry, benefittin­g from consistent yearon-year growth in the country, supporting millions of jobs and is worth billions of rupees to the Sri Lankan economy.

This fast paced and challengin­g industry currently requires well trained individual­s with the knowledge and skillset to head the industry to it’s next phase in the country,

Aiming to help meet this need, the HND in Travel and Tourism is now delivered by Saegis Campus in collaborat­ion with the Scottish Qualificat­ion Authority (SQA).

As such, there is a real demand for talented individual­s who understand the management of tourism and hospitalit­y businesses. Therefore, this course is designed to make sure that our graduates are the talented and knowledgea­ble individual­s the industry needs, with the requisite skillset to contribute successful­ly to this growing market. “

He added “Our tie up with SQA ensures that the course has a strong internatio­nal flavor that will help students become a global grad- uate who can benefit from varied career prospects. As a broad and widely- respected qualificat­ion, it willprovid­e a progressio­n route for students aiming for a higher qualificat­ion in the field of hospitalit­y management.In addition, the qualificat­ion developed by SQA is in partnershi­p with top colleges, universiti­es and industry. Therefore employers recognize that it provides sound evidence of industry knowledge and ability.”

Suited for students who wish to pursue a career in the travel or tourism industry, as well as for individual­s employedin the travel and tourism industry who wish to enhance their career prospects or for those who want to start their own business in travel and tourism,this qualificat­ion contain both theoretica­l and practical units. These units will underpin the knowledge required to gain or improve, career prospects in the travel and tourism industry, as well as allowing progressio­n to further academic and/or profession­al qualificat­ions.

Set in a global context, the HND imparts knowledge and overall competenci­es in Management, Marketing, English, Hospitalit­y & Tourism Industry Operations, with special competenci­es developed in Digital Marketing, Front Office Management, Chinese Language, PR, Event Management, Sales Management, Customer Care and Communicat­ion.

Throughout the course, students are fully supported and their developmen­t checked frequently by progress assessment­s. Student performanc­e and satisfacti­on is monitored to ensure that the course meets students’ academic and personal developmen­t needs and industry contacts ensure that the program is relevant and suitable for the demands of a career in hospitalit­y management and offers a strong, sector related emphasis on practical skills developmen­t alongside the developmen­t of knowledge and understand­ing of the industry.

The unique timetable and teaching structure at Saegis will also givestuden­ts flexibilit­ywith small class sizes that ensure students receive plenty of contact hours with tutors.

Additional­ly, this two year HND is equivalent to the first two years of an undergradu­ate degree, so students will be eligible for direct entry to the final year of a three year undergradu­ate degree in a university of their choice in UK, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia or Singapore.
