Northshore College of Business & Technology (Northshore College hereafter) is the strategic partner for University of the West of England ( UWE), Bristol, UK offering degree programmes in Sri Lanka. UWE, Bristol is well known for its unique approach in designing its progarmmes to assure high quality of education and employability of its graduates. Therefore it is hailed as one of the best universities for undergraduate programmes in the UK. UWE provides the Degree programmes recognized by UGC (University Grants Commission) and is listed in the commonwealth Unive r s i t i e s Yearbook and International Handbook of Universities. Northshore College has been the first choice of higher education for students in sri lanka for the last six years.
Northshore College was established in 2011 with the overarching objectives of providing high quality tertiary education and training to students who are seeking knowledge and pathways to fulfill their dreams of becoming professionals in future. At present, Northshore College offers four UWE degree programmes namely,
BEng (Hons) Electrical & Electronic Engineering, BEng ( Hons) Civil Engineering,
BSc ( Hons) Software Engineering and BSc ( Hons) Business Administration. The unique feature of Northshore undergraduates is that they become internal students of UWE from day one. The first intake only had few students enrolled in Civil Engineering, Electrical &

Northshore College offers Scottish qualification authorities higher national Diplomas (HND) in software development and business programmes on fulltime (18 Months) or part time (24 Months).Students with minimum O/L qualification can enroll for this program and obtain a Topup degree by just completing the 3rd year in many recognized universities worldwide.

However, at present with a population of more than 500 students, Northshore College has become the fastest growing non- state institute for Higher Education in Sri Lanka. Over the past six years, the institute has swiftly gained momentum in terms of recruiting students. There are highly qualified lecturers with excellent academic and professional qualification who engage in teaching and mentoring of students at Northshore. Hence, Northshore College is enriched with a well-reputed blend of lecturers, some of them, who are wellexperienced academics in their respective fields. In addition, Northshore College also obtains the services of senior academics from universities such as Moratuwa, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Colombo and Open University. This certainly is a sign of assurance that the students at Northshore will receive the best kind of exposure and a good foundation.
The four year programmes offered until now at Northshore College are designed to be in line with the Washington Accord (Washington Accord is an international agreement among bodies that are responsible for accrediting four year engineering degree programmes globally). To further fulfil the requirements of the local professional body ( i. e. Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka), engineering students at Northshore College shall undergo industrial training for a minimum of 6 months conducted through the National Apprentice and Industrial T raining Authority (NAITA). This is aimed at providing the students with a more comprehensive approach to ‘ onthe-job’ learning and make them “industry ready” when they graduate.
Northshore College has invested heavily on high quality engineering and IT laboratory facilities for the benefit of its students. The state-of-the-art engineering laboratories are wellequipped with small-scale & large scale testing machines, which can be used for classroom demonstrations and field experiments. The College also provides in-house library facilities to its students and all classrooms and library are equipped with wi-fi connection. All registered students also gain the access to online resources through MyUWE account (the digital library gives access to a number of online journals).
Northshore College is thorough when it comes to quality assurance processes which maintain the academic standards and quality of student experience while strictly adhering to UWE’s academic procedures and regulations. There are regular reviews of the curricula, resources, and facilities to ensure that high level of learning opportunities are provided to all the students at Northshore. The lecturers are well- prepared for the challenges ahead and are confident in terms of enhancing comfortable teacher- student relationships at Northshore.
Students interested in joining Northshore will require a minimum of 3 passes at the Advanced Levels for entry, students with 2 A/ L passes will be considered for Business Administration & Software Engineering De g ree Programmes
Course fees can now be paid in installments so that the financial burden on the parents would be less and for the students, the journey would be uninterrupted. The Institute has an “Education Loan” scheme in partnership with leading Banks.
