Rotaract Champions League: Redefining friendship via competitive sport

-

Rotaract District 3220 Sri Lanka and Maldives is the local youth counterpart of the globally renowned Rotary International which was the main change maker in relation to the eradication of Polio from the world. ‘Rotaract’ stands for ‘Rotary in Action’ and highlights the need to empower young men and women to be the influencers of change for a better tomorrow.

Rotaract 3220 is successful in this regard, with approximately 4000 members representing 65 Rotaract Clubs spread across the Western, Central, Northern and Southern provinces of the country, geared up to be the future faces of change.

Rotaract Champions League 2018 is the fourth instalment of a special Club Service endeavour organised by Rotaract3220 which is specifically aimed at developing the team spirit, leadership skills and friendship among the active youth of the movement via a four day sports tournament. This event captures the vision of District Rotaract Representative for 2017-18, Rtr. Anuradha Senanayake: Engage Rotaract- Redefine Friendship.

The essence of engagement is everpresent at this event as it is a battle between Rotaract Clubs for the ultimate sports championship, and by competition they are interacting with each other. The tournament falls under the focus area of passion, which highlights one of the most essential qualities of a Rotaractor, which is the want to succeed. Rotaract Champions League therefore tests the level of passion a Rotaractor is willing to put in for the success of his/her talents and the team represented by his or her club.

DRR Anuradha stated that “Rotaract Champions League is the perfect platform for Rotaractors to enjoy sports and it has the added bonus of being a combined learning experience about team spirit and fellowship”.

Passion in addition to teamwork and fellowship is indeed the secret for success at Rotaract Champions League, and we eagerly await this year’s tournament which will be held on January 20, 21, 27 and 28. The 1150 plus Rotaractors participating will have to showcase their talents in a range of sports including basketball, chess, carom, swimming, tennis, badminton, futsal, cricket and athletics in order to savour the sweet taste of victory and claim the shield.
