De Lanerolle Brothers sing for their alma mater

-

‘RETROSPECT 2018’ goes on the boards at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on Tuesday, January 30 – a show to raise funds for the very worthy cause of the restoration of the Library of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia.

S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia is celebrating 100 years of the school at Mount Lavinia. A new nursery school was also opened recently.

Popular duo, the De Lanerolle Brothers, both proud products of S. Thomas are taking the stage to sing for their alma mater. They will be joined by 100 young Thomians for four songs.

In his message Warden Rev. Marc Bilimoria spoke of the importance of this project.

“With the new nursery school I am now responsible for the education and formation of nearly 3000 boys.

“A true Thomian, in my view, is not the one who gets the best academic results or the one who is the most popular student in school or the best sportsman. A true Thomian is one who stands for the right sense of values and is a man of sound character and integrity.

“Despite the information technology revolution and the dawn of the internet I still believe that ‘Reading maketh a man and a woman’. We need to encourage and strengthen the reading habit through traditional reading of books but also through modern media such as online publications. A fully modernised Library will cater to both and more.”

“Long known for its excellent choral tradition, the school has over the years produced many accomplished musicians and performers.

“The De Lanerolle Brothers have achieved a name for themselves in Sri Lanka but also on the world stage. In this Centenary Year they have accepted my invitation to be brand ambassadors for S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia as they travel overseas and perform at events organised by our alumni abroad.”

Tickets for RETROSPECT 2018 priced at Rs. 800 (balcony) are available at the Lionel Wendt.
