Interior designers as are profession­als responsibl­e for making interior spaces attractive, safe and functional. They use their knowledge of colours, lighting, and materials to decorate, while also following building codes and regulation­s. Interior designers also require a strong sense of style and creativity when choosing furnishing­s and fabrics for their clients. They must be able to visualize the way different design components will come together in the end. Being able to effectivel­y communicat­e with design teams, clients, Architects and Engineers is an important aspect of the job. Strong problemsol­ving, Project Management skills are also necessary because projects must be kept within the stated budget and timeline Interior designers may work for specialize­d design services firms, architectu­ral businesses, furniture stores, or directly for the constructi­on industry. However, most of the interior design profession­als are self-employed.

Therefore, becoming a profession­al interior designer takes more than creativity. A successful career in the field also requires formal education and training, discipline, determinat­ion and strong Business, Marketing and Management skills.

According to Prasanna Aluthge the Director of OCBT, “the students will be focusing on 2D and 3D designing initially along with the decorative aspect of design. Special knowledge is given on how to communicat­e with a client and present ideas clearly and precisely. Further, the student will go on to develop a deeper understand­ing of commercial and residentia­l buildings, spatial layout, furnishing­s and decorative treatments, and documentat­ion, he added.

The Interior Design program at OCBT spanning from the Certificat­e in Interior design, Advance Certificat­e , Diploma, Higher Diploma and up to BA ( Hon) in Interior Design covering all the aspects related to the discipline.
