Vidura steps into her 20th year

We are an English medium Independent National Buddhist School. Vidura was established with the dawn of 1999, on the eve of 21st century.

-

The Beginning

Vidura entered the firmament of education with the dawn of 1999. It served the students who were longing for English medium education residing in the outskirts of Colombo - stretching from Kadawatha to Moratuwa, from Colombo to Avissawella, the main centres being Nawala and Hokandara.

We are Expanding

By now (2018) we have spread our reach in three directions. Kelaniya, Maharagama and Kalutara. Our student population has been growing over the years and now stands at 3,000.

We are encouraged by the large influx of enquirers but, yet we are not complacent. We will not compromise our hall- mark, Quality and Discipline. In fact our forte has been discipline, a much needed commodity in this era chaotic social trends.

We are smiling with our 3000 students for what we have achieved on this 19th birthday, 27th January 2018.

We are Different

Vidura is different in that we stand on three pillars: National thinking, Religious fervour and Culture consciousness.

A school is not just an institution that confines to book learning and or training to sit examinations to collect certificates. It is essentially far too beyond that. A success of a school not depends on brick and mortar but on values that it endevour to inculcate and uphold.

At Vidura we have a composite work program involving moral and spiritual development, character building, personality development, leadership training, engaging in sports, appreciation of cultural values, enhance creativity, development of co- operation, collaboration and networking, inter personal relationships, communication skills, etc, to bring in a complete personality that steps into the society on leaving the school.

Hence, Vidura differentiates itself from usual learning institutions in Secondary education in Sri Lanka.

Our students are Disciplined, Sober, Creative, Communicative and possess exemplary character and conversant in with good English and Sinhala.

Each Grade is limited to 200 students at Hokandara and Nawala. both boys and girls in equal numbers. Limited numbers assure high quality and positive discipline.

Learning English

We have exclusive programs for learning English, University of Cambridge ESOL and Trinity College London GESE.

Sports and co-curricular

We have performed well in sports, especially in Cricket, Badminton, Athletics and Rugger.

National Syllabus - GCE (OL) and GCE (AL)

We teach National syllabus from Grade One to Thirteen, all subjects in English while teaching Sinhala as First Language. In average 200 students sit GCE ( OL) each year with 100% pass rate in all subjects.

We admit limited numbers to our GCE (A/L). We are proud to say that we maintain regular attendance of over 90% that is not found anywhere else in the island. Over 60% qualifies for university education with required Z score. Others enroll for foreign universities or professional institutes.

Higher education

Those who entered universities in Sri Lanka and in countries like India, Malaysia, China, Australia, UK and USA have performed well in Medicine, Engineering, Law, Informat i o n Technology, Accountancy, Management and Business Studies,

External influences and new world order

Our students are performing well despite the adverse impact of the tuition industry that has changed the teaching - learning process in the country topsy-turvy.

We have started making our students conversant in Hindi and Chinese, a tall task indeed, to make them ready before the two giants awaken from long sleep!
