Embry-Riddle and Gateway join to create Aviation and Aerospace study opportunities in Sri Lanka

-

For the very first time, EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University, the world’s largest and mostrespected university specializing in aviation and aerospace, launched its innovative Dual Enrollment Program outside of the US. This significant step was initiated in Sri Lanka through Embry-Riddle’s partnership with Gateway Graduate School, the higher education and professional development arm of the Gateway Group.

The official launch of the Dual Enrollment Program was held on the 19th January 2018 at the Kingsbury Hotel. The speakers at the event included Dr. Graham Hunt, Vice-Chancellor of Embry-Riddle’s Asia Campus and Ms. Krishti Chatterjee, Director of Embry-Riddle Asia Campus.

The Dual Enrollment Program will ena- ble Sri Lankan students pursuing their UK or local A/Ls or those who have just completed their ALs to complete almost the first year of their undergraduate degree qualification of the prestigious US University in cutting- edge fields that define the future of the world. As such, at an early stage in their lives, the students will have the opportunity to embark on a career that will lead to the top seats of aviation and aerospace industries in areas including aviation management, engineering and piloting.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Embry-Riddle has been at the forefront of ground- breaking aeronautical milestones since the early days of flight. The university’s collaborators in training and research include NASA and the US military. At present, there are over 30,000 students at Embry-Riddle pursuing accredited degree programs at associate, bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels. The university has three campuses: Florida, Arizona and Singapore.

The Dual Enrollment Program

The Embry- Riddle Dual Enrollment Program provides a unique opportunity to students who are doing their UK or local ALs or those who have recently completed their ALs [Same issue ]to earn University credits worth 80% of their first year’s degree studies in a flexible manner. The program is comprehensively delivered on an online platform with the support of a few face to face workshops in Sri Lanka by the academic staff of Embry-Riddle. Additional tutorial support will be provided by Gateway Graduate School. Upon the successful completion of the program, the participants will be able to transfer to degree pathways in innovative fields such as Aeronautics and Unmanned Systems, Aeronautical Science and Piloting, Aviation Management and Engineering or to many other degree pathways such as business, engineering and computing. Given that the Dual Enrollment Program is based on the North American credit framework, the students can progress on to either EmbryRiddle’s campuses in the US/Singapore or to a range of other universities in the US, Canada and Australia.

The Key Benefits for Sri Lankan Students

Sri Lankan students benefit in a number of ways by pursuing the Dual Enrollment Program: a wide array of degree pathways and nternational transfer opportunities upon successful completion, exposure towards practical aspects of aviation and aerospace studies during the workshops conducted in Sri Lanka by Embry-Riddle’s academic staff, saving almost one year’s time of higher education studies, and financial benefits as the students can earn up to 24 Credits of a typical US degree program at a fraction of the cost in Sri Lanka. In addition to these benefits, the Dual Enrolment Program accommodates the important need for flexibility in that the courses/ modules of the program can be completed at the students’ own pace. For instance, the students who pursue the program in parallel to their A/Ls or any other course can take breaks in their studies when there are school or public examinations. At the same time, the students can increase their courses/ modules during their holidays. It also provides you an opportunity to bridge the knowledge gap between A/Ls and the degree program in your own pace and decide your interested course of study more precisely as you are exposed to fundamentals of most of the degree programs.
