CINEC Starts Ministry of Higher Education/UGC approved Engineering Degrees at a very affordable cost
Having undertaken Engineering Higher Education at graduate level for over ten years, and successfully administered a Bachelors Honors Degree programs in five Engineering disciplines with foreign collaboration, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of the Colombo International Nautical & Engineering College (CINEC) is now embarking on offering its own Engineering degree programs with the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education, with refinements, making it better suited to meet the needs of the local industry and country in general.
The Ministry of Higher Education has given approval, for CINEC to offer Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering [BSc (Hons) Eng.] degrees in four specializations, namely, Automotive Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. These programs were developed in accordance with the Sri Lanka Qualification Framework specifications, adhering to “Washington Accord” requirements adopted by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka. The degree programs are of four years duration with an embedded Industrial Training module.
The multi- faceted expertise developed over the years and the wealth of knowledge built up by the dedicated in-house teaching fraternity directly involved in administering engineering programs at graduate level have all gone into the design and development of theseEngineering degree programs. In addition, resource persons from other engineering faculties of National Universities as well as experts from the Industry, contribute a lot to develop these programs.
CINEC offers these Engineering degree programs at a very appropriate time, where more than 16,000 students obtained minimum requirement to enter into a university in Mathematics stream, where as less than 2000 places are available in six engineering faculties of national universities. Those who do not gain entry to engineering faculties of national universities can register for CINEC engineering degrees and become engineering graduates in four years, rather than wasting few years of their valuable young life, repeating A/ L examination for the second or third time.
Even though the minimum entry requirement to register for engineering degree programs is having three passes at GCE A/L examination with Mathematics and Physics, CINEC looks forward to attract students with better A/ L results. For this purpose, CINEC has introduced a special scholarship programfor those who performed well at A/L exam. Those who posses three “A” passes will get a scholarship amounting to 75% of the tuition fees for all four years of the degree. Those who have three “B” passes will get 50% scholarship and for three “C” passes, 25% scholarship will be given.
The fee structure for these CINEC engineering degree programs is kept at a very low level and very much affordable to majority of parents who want their children to become Engineering graduates. To make this even more affordable, CINEC has also introduced a monthly payment scheme.
The resources and infrastructure required for the delivery of engineering programs have been continuously developed and deployed over the years by CINEC. Over and above the existing facilities to deliver engineering degrees with foreign collaborations, substantial investments are being made to improve engineering laboratory and workshop facilities especially, to cater to the increased needs of these new degree programs.
CINEC maintains a very close relationship with leading companies and organizations, especially in the engineering Industry. Through Industry Consultative Boards, CINEC identifies the needs of the Industry and qualities expected from engineering graduates by the Industry and every possible effort is made to inculcate those qualities in CINEC engineering graduates, with a view to produce “Work- Ready” engineering graduates, who will adjust themselves to suit any working environment within a very short time period.
