Malaysian's thrash MCA by 140 runs

A belligeren­t unbeaten century by middle order batsman Syahadat Ramli (138 in 92 balls, with 13 sixes and 5 fours) and a solid half- century by Skipper, Anwar Arudin (60 in 37 balls, with 6 sixes and 6 fours) propelled the visiting Malaysian National Cricket Team to a comprehens­ive 140-runs win over MCA President’s XI, in a friendly 45-over cricket encounter at the MCA grounds recently

The Malaysians, winning the toss, batted on an easy track,to pile up 327/8 in 45 overs. They were helped by 2 productive partnershi­ps- an opening stand of 80 runs in 53 balls between skipper, Arudin and Ainool Hakim (36), and 80 runs stand for the 5th wicket in 69 balls, between Syahadat and Tariq Aziz ( 40). MCA President’s Skipper Punnyakant­ha Abeygunase­kera of Ceylon Cold Stores, used 9 bowlers, including himself. The most impressive were Ruwan Fernando [ Peoples Leasing ( 7- 0- 58- 3)] and Asher Warnakulas­uriya [Pyramid Wilmer (7-124- 1)]. The MCA President’s team, with seasoned batsmen up to No. 11, threw away their wickets and folded up for 187 runs in 26.4 overs. Pavandeep Singh (4-1-93), Suharril Fetri (4-1-17-2) and paceman Wafiq Ifran (4-0-19-2) bagged the wickets.

The 2 special awards on offer went to Syahadat Ramli ( Visitors' Man of the Match) and Chathurang­a Dikkumbura (MCA Man of the Match)

The Chief Guest was the Sri Lanka’s first Test Captain, Bandula Warnapura.
