CFW on a musical note at Sooriya Village

Under a dome, with the trees lit up all around, musicians Julius Mitchell, Naomi Wijemanne and Sankha Bopearachc­hie took the stage to launch a new segment of the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week.

‘Music Designed’ on Tuesday night at Sooriya Village saw the three present original runway tracks for the collection­s of five designers who were showcasing their work at the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week ending today. The tracks they have created will be available online and will be played on TNL Radio. The three performed these tracks and some of their original music.

Julius Mitchell beatboxed and played the keyboard while he sang ‘Innovation is the answer’ the track he had composed for designer Jaish Jayasinghe’s collection. Mitchell, is a singer, pianist, teacher and composer and has performed in several countries around the world.

R&B and Soul singer Naomi Wijemanne who has two No. 1 hits on Yes FM’s Homegrown Charts and was adjudged Best Female Artist of 2017 created a soundtrack for the brand LOVI designed by Asanka De Mel. She sang two original songs at the launch.

Sankha Bopearachc­hie (a.k.a. Sankha B) has composed music for Voice Print, The Slipping Chairs, Sanuka and Doctor. Starting his internatio­nal career in 2016, he now works with Jay Z’s record label, RocNation. Currently he is working on a single to be released worldwide by Andrea Martin. Sankha B has composed the HSBC Colombo Fashion Week theme song which he performed at Sooriya Village that evening as well as performing an acoustic version of the song he wrote for the brand, Conscious. In addition, he composed music for designer Amilani Perera.
