- - Damith Wickremasekara

All Principals having served continuously for over 10 years in a National school, will be transferred to other schools soon, said Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

He said, "The 3rd stage of Teacher transfers from National schools currently under way, will be completed by the end of the month.

Under this scheme, some 5,473 Teachers in Grades 6- 11 will be transferred.

Mr Kariyawasam said though it was a difficult to execute the transfers, they will go ahead with the scheme.

He said they will take into consideration issues Principals will face when the transfer is executed.

"We expect to obtain the best service from Principals hence, if we transfer them to different schools, we will get the best service from them," the Minister said.

A Committee has been appointed to study and implement the scheme.

Under this scheme, some 2,590 Advanced Level Teachers were transferred last year, as the 1st stage of the Teacher Transfer programme.

It's 2nd stage was implemented early this year with the transfer of 760 National School Teachers who had completed 10 years in Grades 1-5.

However, Teachers in Grades 1-4 were exempted, where teaching has been imparted in stages. Their transfers will be considered at the end of the year, without disturbing the teaching in the Primary section.

"We expect to obtain the best service from Principals hence, if we transfer them to different schools, we will get the best service from them," the Minister said.
